GERD & Heartburn Support Group
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is defined as chronic symptoms or mucosal damage produced by the abnormal reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus. This is commonly due to transient or permanent changes in the barrier between the esophagus and the stomach. If you are afflicted with GERD or heartburn, join the group and find support.
Candida can take a while to get rid of. What are doing right now to eliminate it?? Is the pain you are experiencing from herxing (die off)? Are you now following the candida diet? Are you taking any supplements to kill the candida as well?
Candida used to cause me several problems besides GERD. I use to have lights in my vision, fatigue, skin rashes on occasion, hypoglycemia, migraines to name a few. My morning sickness seemed to be tied to hypoglycemia and went away shortly after doing the diet. I used to keep a nutri grain bar by my bed just in case I had a mid-night episode of my blood sugar dropping.
When I began my diet I still had GERD symptoms that lasted for several weeks even though improvements started happening within a week. I had to eliminate some foods that were allowed on the Candida diet because I noticed that it caused me pain after I ate it such as apples (all fruits), potatoes in small quantities and carrots.
Candida can cause hunger pangs and hypoglycemia and that went away in about a week. You have to eat a small meal every 3 hours (no later than 3 1/2 hours). You can eat chicken, fish, steak (medium rare is best because meat cook well can raise your homocysteine levels).
Theralac is an excellent probiotic. Threelac is excellent treatment for Candida. Oil of Oregano is good but can cause GERD symptoms initially. GSE liquid by Nutribiotic is excellent. Aloe Vera before bed is very good to take along with DGL licorice root 20 minutes before each meal. Garlic is good. I take either Garlitrin 4000 or raw garlic with meals.
I def am having the hunger pains.
I take american biologics probiotics.
chicken fish steak- I like meat sometimes it is difficult for me to cook so I am trying to buy some...I'm living on my own for the first time and it has been five years and I still am not a very good cook but getting better. I just got a better job and can afford to get boston market and stuff. thanks again!
Most do not recommend apples since the sugar content can feed Candida. I avoided all fruit initially for 3 weeks. I tried blueberries because the sugar content is so low but I still had some light stinging so I avoided that for a few weeks.
Boston market has good chicken but make sure you avoid the potatoes and other starchy foods. Beware of any artificial preservatives too. Beware of certain veggies such as carrots and corn in the beginning. Carrots often do not cause any problems but I eliminated them initially figuring why should I chance it. Stay away from cheese and salad dressings and vinegar too initially.
I hated the diet but it was worth getting the results. I'm here for you and will help you the whole way. Your dull pain should subside after you get adjusted to the diet within a few days. Most times, the dull pain is your stomach crying out for carbs. Do you find yourself craving sweets at all?
I will be posting soon a complete Candida diet taken from Dr Sherry Rogers book.
Good luck with your doctor visit in October.
I agree with Stefunny that the diet sucks and with you Kelly that the diet is sooo hard. I was desperate to cure my GERD so I went at it 100% even though I wanted to quit many times. I still am on a low carb diet but I now eat cheese and fruits.
I feel bad for Stefunny that really would like to be rid of GERD but is experiencing so much stomach pain. I found the best way to cure that is to eat a meal and keep eating until the stomach settles. This diet causes such a shock that the initial symptoms are headaches, stomach cramps, diarrhea, flu-like symptoms in some, nausea, possible hypoglycemia attack in the beginning (happened to me), fatigue and muscle cramps (potassium supplement 90mg helped until my body adjusted). These can be the result of either Candida die-off (herx effect) or from the body seeking carbs for energy and not finding it. Once the body realizes that carbs will no longer be the supplied energy then it will turn to burn fat or protein in the diet. That is why high protein is important in this diet because it tells the body that it is not starving.
A good way to do a transition into this diet is to buy the book Protein Power by Dr. Eades. It is not a Candida diet but it will help you adjust to the low carb diet and then you can start to eliminate the other foods such as cheese, alcohol, fruits and so on to make this diet work. You will experience a big improvement but not a cure with GERD when you follow the Protein Power diet for Candida.
Stefunny, make sure that you are eating enough foods at each meal and make sure that you are eating every 3 hours. Trust me, this diet and eating every 3 hours will not add weight to you so do not be afraid to eat. You do not want to eat until your stuffed but only satisfied. You also do not want to eat a quick small meal that wouldn't satisfy a small child either. This is not a calorie deprivation diet but a carb deprivation diet. Try eating until you feel the dull pain subside.
It's very nice to meet you Kelly and I look forward to speaking to you more about this diet that cured me.
Update:
third day of my diet and I've lost steam. I drank cran juice last night cuz I was starting to get a urinary infection, then today I had half a donut b/c it was donut day at work, oh and I had two oreo cookies last night b/c the healthy food I cooked tasted so bad I had to do something...jeez. I am wondering, can't I just up the candida killers? That reminds me. ok. I'll make sure I have lots of garlic tonight. And try not to get down on myself for failing so I can keep it up for a little longer...will keep in touch. thanks for listening.
