Hey everyone,
My doctor put me on omeprazole Monday and I haven't been able to "go" without a laxative since. I've had chronic constipation for years and finally found a diet and supplements that work for me so I've been incredibly frustrated trying to figure out what is wrong with me this past week. Today I finally realized that the only thing that changed in the last week was taking the Omeprazole, and along with the constipation comes a lot of gas and heartburn. I couldn't find much information about this side effect after some searching, so I was wondering if anyone else has experienced it? I'm definitely not willing to trade in acid reflux for chronic constipation, so does anyone know of any other solutions for reflux?

I know your post is old...I do have the same problem. This medication makes me constipated as well:(

It seems like all medications cause constipation. I use stool softeners, without the laxative in them. It takes about 2 days to really start working but if you take 2 a day, you should start noticing a difference, along with a lot of water. Hugs GB

I find that only certain brands of omerprazole make me contipated. I mostly buy Prilosec over the counter. So far, it's the only brand that won't.

I have been in the situation and my doctor put me on a 2 week course of taking omep once a day. I was told that if I experience any gas or something, I would have to take an antacid. I have no issues on constipation as I was informed to increase my fluid intake.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
