Does anyone know if you can still get 40mg tablets as a prescribtion or will I have to buy it over the counter as 20mg tablet. if I have to buy them over the counter, I will have to stop using it as the cost of it is to high and I can not aford it. I am very afraid that the very bad hurtburn will come back. i am just starting to feel better. ..

I always get my nexium 40mg over the counter as well as pantoprazole.

Since Nexium OTC is only available in 20mg doses in the US, I would assume that insurance would still pay for the 40mg pill. But, it is never good to assume anything when it comes to insurance, so you will need to contact your insurance company to check.

I checked the new webpage for Nexium OTC and it still says not to take this drug any longer than 14 days, like all other PPIs say in the fine print. Too bad that they (including drug companies, and doctors) get people so hooked on these dangerous drugs that everyone seems to ignore the long term usage dangers.
