GERD & Heartburn Support Group
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is defined as chronic symptoms or mucosal damage produced by the abnormal reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus. This is commonly due to transient or permanent changes in the barrier between the esophagus and the stomach. If you are afflicted with GERD or heartburn, join the group and find support.
Also Prilosec is a Proton Pump Inhibitor, it literally reduces the GERD by decreasing the amount of acid in your stomach....it can't make your GERD worse, you may not have taken it long enough to make it better, but it couldn't have made it worse. Are you also following a GERD diet, that your Dr. should have given you of foods and drinks to stay away from? That's a big part on controlling GERD.
There aren't many treatments for GERD besides proton pump inhibitor drugs, so if you don't like this one, then you need to talk to your Dr. about a different one. Also are you seeing a Gastroenterologist or just your Family Dr.?
