I had it done a couple years ago. It's very none invasive. You will eat something with a little radioactive dust added to it (not enough to hurt you) and then you lay under a screen that will measure how fast you digest. I was able to watch it on the screen. It takes about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Very boring...lol

Yep, just like Littlemac says boring - bring a book or something to occupy yourself in between the various "pictures" they take over those 1.5 to 2 hours.

I have gastroparesis which is the paralization or semi-paralization of the stomach, thought to be at this time from damage to the vagus nerve. The gastric empty study measures the rate your stomach empties and littlemac and bluesydeb are right. You do not eat or drink for 12 hours and then the standard test is a small amt of a scrambled egg with radioactive dye or in some cases oatmeal but the standard is an egg with a little water. i had a nice recliner to lay in between the pictures. Ususally they will order a 2 or 4 hour test. I was happy to have mine done bc it gave me a diagnosis to work with which led to some solutions.

Just curious why your dr says he thinks its not empty properly without this test. have you had an endo lately? Good luck finding your answers and feeling better!

Thanks for the information, I did the Gastric Emptying Study. It was not bad at all, but very boring. Now I am waiting for the results. My doctor told me my stomach wasn't emptying after I had an endo.

Forgive me for popping into your discussion. Because I have it , 1) Im interested to meet others and although Im in another forum, Im in day strength for other things. I did not see one for GP. I thought he probably saw food after your 12h without food status and its normal to follow up with the ges. Best of luck!

Im hearing everyone talking about having gastroparesis in this post. Does anyone have experience in treatment and healing. Do people discuss GP in this forum or not~
