GERD & Heartburn Support Group
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is defined as chronic symptoms or mucosal damage produced by the abnormal reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus. This is commonly due to transient or permanent changes in the barrier between the esophagus and the stomach. If you are afflicted with GERD or heartburn, join the group and find support.
Good Luck, Vicki.
Vicki.
You can have gastritis with heartburn. Eating small meals helps a lot too but they have to be plain meals about every 2 hours.. It is sort of like snacking all day long but not too much food in the tummy at one time.
Do the food diary like Vicki suggested and there are a lot of good ideas in 2 other threads.. one is called PPI"s and the other is "are there any good stories".
You can totally eliminate the problem but it takes a lot of hard work and extreme discipline with the diet. I find my main issue is that I lose weight with the low fat diet and then I try to gain some back with more fatty foods and I get heartburn again or I go out to eat and there are hidden things in the food like pepper that can get me into a more intense flareup.
It is best to try and stay away from the foods that give you a problem. This issue is a learning curve thing and it requires a lifestyle change but it can get way better.
Good luck,
Lesley
the soreness will go away after you are taking the PPI for a while. it takes time for the stomach to heal.. 3 days is too soon.
Good luck with the doctor, Lesley
There is no cure, but there are things we can do to limit our episodes. I believe lifestyle and being proactive plays a big part in how we cope and reduce acid reflux.
Taking out foods that make it worse helps and eating your last snack meal at 6pm. I also found The Reflux Diet Cookbook & Cure helpful. This book helps us adapt and adopt ways of cutting acid reflux and helps us understand the condition better.
Have you been eating salads?
