Hi Everyone, I am a straight girl and a friend of Jerry's! (great guy)! I was just curious if any of you had a chance to watch Ricky Martin on the Oprah Show today 11/2, Tues. Just wanted to say it was a wonderful show. I am anxious to buy his book that just is coming out..."ME"! It sounds very inspirational and uplifting for anyone who is still struggling to come out and be who they are to family and friends and the community. I was so impressed with his beautiful, loving soul and his wise words and open honesty. Just wanted to let you know the book might be something some of you may find very helpful in your struggles with day to day life. I wish you all the beautiful life we all are so deserving of! I personally can't care less for Ricky Martin, but I just happened to watch the show in the waiting area of my doctor's office. Still can't care less for Ricky Martin.

I think that it's funny how the media and Ricky Martin himself are under the impression that he has some sort of grandiose and unique story to tell. In reality, his coming-out story is just like everyone else's coming-out story but he suddenly is the poster boy for latent homosexuals. Millions of normal, ordinary people go through what he went through - sometimes to a worse degree - and they don't get book deals or Oprah shows.

I so agree with you mj....it's just that he is in the "public" eye and is a great humanitarian and it helps bring awareness to many people that refuse to listen or care to listen. I just wanted to relay this on to the many unfortunate people that are struggling with themselves...to be whom they are meant to be...all because of our narrow minded society thinks of them as a "screwed up mess" !

I am proud of Ricky Martin for coming out to our world...especially being a sex symbol to many women and feeling like this would hurt his career. He is now saying to the world...This is me...a proud homosexual man!

I hope i did not offend anyone of you by this post. I just thought he sent a beautiful msg and wanted to share.

Despite what some of us think of him as a performer, his courage in coming out to such a public forum is both commendable and selfless. He didn't have to do it. Yet, despite the push back [real or imagined] he felt compelled to speak to a need which addresses the common good--the need to show courage and authenticity in our lives.

I guess it doesn't hurt that a famous popular artist comes out. The more LGBT people come out the better.

I know he's from Puerto Rico, and I know that the word "loca" is used as Puerto Rican slang for gay people. So I guess he now gives a new meaning to "living la vida loca". :-)
