Gay Men's Challenges Support Group
This community is dedicated to the challenges that gay men face, both between the partners in a relationship and from other influences (family, society, etc.). Find support and talk to others who may be facing the same challenges, and share your experience.
i have to admit, i find it mildly amusing when someone is shocked because i don't fit the stereotype. they act as if i went out of my way to be deceptive. but, they're more enlightened after.
but i find that i'm more "stereotypically" gay around my gay friends than i am around my straight friends... i don't "try" to be this way - and the "difference" is not great - it just comes out...
I mean face book, that's really all anyone has to say....it's face book
Face book
" I had a good talk with one of my close friends the other day. My friend is an older gentleman, and so his views are somewhat different than mine, I'll tell you what happened. I was talking to him about how when I meet new people, I like to tell them that I am gay. He said to me, "You don't see straights saying, "Im Straight" to people. Which that is true, I have never seen a straight person go up to someone and tell them they were straight unless it was a striaght guy telling a gay guy that he was straight because he doesn't want anything to do with the gay guy. My friend just doesn't understand why I put my sexualality out there. I don't think that I really put it out there, I just like it to be noticed. The thing is that everyone that doesn't know I'm gay, they think I am straight. My friend thinks that if I tell people that I am gay, then I am labeling myself. I don't see it as labeling myself. I see it as an accomplishment to be gay. I think it is something to be proud of, Hence "Gay Pride." I know my friend will never understand where I am coming from because he is from a totally different generation, where everything was kept hush-hush. Well sorry, but this is a new generation now, and this generation wants be known and visible. This is not the era of hiding. All of the gays and straights and whatever other people throughout history fought for the rights of all of us GLBT members. I tell you one thing, I am thankful that they put there lives and reputations on the line for me and every other GLBT member. And because of them I am out and proud, and nothing will ever make me change that."
I am from the genration (41 years old, grew up in NYC) where we didn't keep it hush hush but we also didn't wear it on our sleeve like a badge of courage or a metal.
Being gay is not what defines me it's just a quick way of saying who I prefer to have sex with.
I don't even know how one "gays-it-up" as Oney was asking, does that mean "sleep around with three times as many people"......
I think the young gaylings do more harm than good to themselves and the cause, but the old queens aint much better.....lol
What can ya do
The friend I was talking about in my blog entry is in his late 60's just so you know. And I don't wear my gayness on my sleeve. Like I said, that blog entry of mine was from two years ago, so I have most definently changed in some ways. Mostly the only reason I may tell someone that I am gay is because I am so straight acting that I don't seem gay to them. And being gay doesn't define me either. I am a VERY unique individual. And I will ALWAYS be proud of who I am,and the FACT that I am gay. Being Straight is yesterdays news. So pick up a copy of The New Gayly Report, and READ IT AND WEEP.
