School Art discrimination

There was an assignment in art class about political issues and how we feel on them and I am not in the class but I heard about what happened but most people chose gay rights. Someone had the nerve to make a project that had a knife blood and a paper on it and it had a quote from the bible on it Leviticus 20:13 I think it was and it really pissed me off. I don't mind the other ones because they are really creative and for gays but this one was a bit much. The principal got mad and is threatening the art teacher because the project is in the school display case. Most of the students I heard it from are saying he is wrong in being mad and all because your supposed to be allowed to express yourself in art class. I think it is offensive and it is really difficult to walk by it in school and not break through the glass and rip it to peices. What do you think?

i totally agree. People can express their opinions without being offensive. If he feels that way then he shouldn't make everyone else feel uncomfortable. He should really get suspended or they should take it down or something because schools aren't meant to make anyone feel uncomfortable because they're glbt

its totally wrong. 1 because its kinda violent and 2 because its discrimination and thats shouldnt be allowed to happen in school

I looked it up inthe bible and the verse it said was something like " If a man lies with a male they are both an abomination and will be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them." and with blood painted on the display makes it even worse. I think it is just like telling the students that it is right and okay to kill gays and what we are like is wrong and I am going to tell them as soon as I can that if they want to get all religious in school aobut gays I can get religious right back at them and prove to them that gays aren't against god.

We haven't had school (snow) but I am really wanting to go talk to the principal about this because he isn't doing anything about it. GGGRRR!!!

why hasnt someone broken the glass and ripped it up? maby you should burn a bible, tape it and take photos of it and put it up around the school.

As a matter of fact I told my mom that I wanted to break the glass and rip it up exactly but she said I could go to jail for destruction of property and my cousin who is also gay says that I don't need to break the glass because it slides open and is never locked. That helps though I will do something about it and will let you know when I do what happens.

I have strong Religious belifes, because Im gay does not in any way that Im any less devoted to God than a straight person. Im also quite an angry person and extremely short tempered. If that piece of shit was in a hallway any where that I could see it, it would be in a bin before you even saw me put it there. Plus, I dont disagree with the piece of art itself, I understand that people all have their opinions on homosexuality, so I would never be one to say you cant think that. But displaying it in a hall or a classroom is encouraging homophobic behaviour. x.x.x.x. (sorry about my little rant lol)

Ah, i see this two ways:

1) as an artist, i can understand the individual's need to express themselves creatively

BUT 2) as a non-straight individual, it's offensive, discriminatory, and could be considered a threat.

now, it shouldn't be displayed in a school setting, because its subject matter could be used in violent ways. also, i believe it's linked to a disturbance in the individual that created it, a possible deep hatred and other underlying issues that should be addressed.

anyway, i am in agreeance with you and your principal (whom i hope does something about the matter)

What bothered me the most was it was depicting violence towards gays with the knife blood and the quote from the bible saying that "they will surely be put to death". Where I live there are a lot of prejudice people and if that is displayed it would basically show the people with original hate for gays that it is okay and in the bible to physically abuse them in some way. I told the principal about it and he said that we are on different sides of this issue (maening he agrees with the display) but because a student has a problem with it he has to have it taken down. He overreacted though because he made the art teacher cry. I talked to her later and she said that she would have been fine taking it down but he yelled and screamed and threatened her with her job. I felt bad for her after that and I feel a lot safer now that it is down.
