Homosexuality is not a sin. The sin is the act of homosexual sex. There are numerous bible texts of the old Testament that make sex between a man and a man, then again there are other sins that one could easliy fall in to. Remember that to be a good 'Temple Jew' all one has to do is obey the 613 commandments as proscribed in the Old Testament.
As a Mass going Catholic, yes I do receive the Sacrament of Confession and the Eucharist, I firmly believe that being a gay male is not a sin.

Its interesting to note that what Leviticus condems some of it you can us to discriminate against ,being LGB or black but some of it you can not like eating shellfish? Was it eaisier for the us (the whole human race) when we were realeased from the law to break free from the latter and some are still bonded to the former?

I'm still trying to figure out whether its a sin but I would say that it seams obsured that the perfect all knowing God when he was creating me got my sexuality wrong

God doesn't make mistakes. I never believed that nor ever will. The problem that a lot of Christians have with people who are gay is that they view gay people as an attack on "the family." Nothing could be further from the truth. Gay people do not set out to destroy the family or marriage. That is not our goal at all. Most of us came from families at one time or another so of course it is important for a man and a woman to procreate. Nevertheless, there is this misconception when viewing gay people as an antagonistic force. Most of us just want to be with a partner and be happy for the rest of our lives. That's all.

I think it also comes down to civil liberties and rights too in this country. We have the right to live the lifestyle we want to, guarenteed certain unalienable rights in the constitution. Maybe it would help some other non-gay Christians out there if we called gay marriages, "civil unions" instead like in some states. Maybe the word marriage is meant for a man and a woman and a "marriage" between a man and a man or a woman and a woman should be called something else? I don't know. It's possible our society has not yet "evolved" to coin such a phrase, thus creating some of the tension we see in society today.

I am Catholic but firmly believe that one's relationship with God is what matters most, the good deeds they do here on Earth, etc. It is that core foundation within one's spirit that guides us to inter-personal worth with our Creator. Finally, I personally think that people should view the bible as a source of history as well, documents which recorded past civiliations and societies because this is exactly what the bible did. Inspired by God, yes, but again written by man, who is fallable. We all are. That is why I also think there is no "correct religion"- why, because they are also man made. That doesn't make it a bad thing and it is not to say that God does not have a huge role in being part of someone's life through religion, but it is something to look at. I don't think it is correct to simply say to someone the bible, koran or torah say such and such and that is the way it must be. How many wars and conflicts have happened in history because of that reasoning?

I'm just musing here but when Scripture talks about marriage between a man and a woman and the church uses that to say that marriage is only to be between man and woman, could it be that when Scripture was writen it was so tabbo to talk about same sex relationships that you din't dare mention it so only marrige between a man and woman was writen about.

Very, very true there. These topics have essentially been taboo up until I'd say maybe 10 years ago, what do you think? I think the movement towards accepting gay/bi people probably started in the 1960's or so but not until very recently has there been a huge explosion and progress made in leaps and bounds. I'm a history person and like studying people, but that is the impression I'm left with. In 10 more years, I can only predict acceptance on a much greater level. Look at how long it took for black Americans to gain their civil rights following the Civil War in our country- it was until the 1960's.

because people don't like what they can't understand and it's easier to judge others then themselves. The book of leviticus also says other things that people don't take seriously such as pork being an abomination which shows they tend to 'nit pick' verses in order to backup their own prejustices. There's no verse which directly says being gay is a sin in the bible
