Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
I hate having to worry about what to eat due to being scared of the pain.
What have you tried that works for you?
Yes, I feel very alone, and scared. Today I had some banana porridge with cinnamon, and it has given me pain. Usually that's a safe meal for me. Maybe the portion was too big, I don't know
How are you today?
For breakfast I eat frosties
For lunch I eat crackers and gluten free cheese spread
Dinner time is a hard one
I eat a lot off noodles haven't tried much
And I don't eat after 7pm which i think it helps a lot with the pain.
I'm about 7 weeks into this condition. I have read that it can last for months and months
Just a quick note to say hang in there it WILL get better. I have had a real struggle but am almost there. I found the things that helped are basically..
1 keep on the meds that your Dr has put you on BUT if like me the first PPI make you unwell try try and try again until you get the right one. I tried omeprazole..no good....lanzaprozole..no good.....zantac ....no good...then nexium...worked!! the rest made me feel really really unwell.
2.. eat healthy ...bland but healthy...veggies/lean meat/good fruit not citrus/drink water.
3.avoid spicy/hot/acid usual stuff that can upset your stomach. be careful with chocolate !! ( I know very unfair!)
4. plenty of rest and be gentle on yourself, don't push yourself too much, and try to limit stress if poss.
5. Have Faith ...it will get you through this horrid condition. Tiny little steps will get you a long way.
My Prayers to you all. Any questions just ask me :)
I had two lots of strong antibiotics within the space of about 3 months and also went away and caught gastroenteritis in between and it all completely wiped out my stomach....I have had a really hard struggle with the whole thing and didn't get diagnosed until last year! so that was one of the reasons it has taken so long to get to were I am now. I don't think the Doctors can really tell how long a certain person will take to recover...each person is different I suppose.. I had to have 2 endo's in the end. I am now left with a weird ache above my belly button every time I eat...I think it's the food not digesting properly from the PPI it comes on within 2 mins of eating, no matter what I eat!! going for a PH acid test soon...so will wait to see if that turns up any thing. Yes it's better that they will do another endo..hopefully you'll be clear :) and the gastritis is gone !! when is your endo lovelyone? let us know how it goes. This has been a long road for most of us...but we will get there!!
I just noticed that a lot of us on here are women in mid 40's to 50 and possibly some of us are in the menopause ..I am bang smack in the middle of it at the moment...suffering really bad night sweats and daily (hourly) hot flashes, I have heard that the menopause and lack of estrogen causes the stomach mucous lining to thin...so producing gastritis...we could have a look on google. I have been reasonably healthy all my life until I hit the menopause and bam! lot's of problems. The pain I had was just above belly button...burning pain going through to my back some times and some times the ache was in the sternum,,,and occasional nausea..but the pain was awful along with a gnawing sensation like a weird hunger pain. Were is your pain? does it go through to your back? . what meds are you on? It really sounds like you have gastritis. are you on any meds? My Prayers to all :)
