Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

Hi Everyone, Ok so Today I went to see my doctor for my monthly routine appointment. I told her what i was doing with my diet regarding the bland easy to digest foods only (chicken, rice, oatmeal etc). I also told her I was going to do this for a while around 9 months. She said "why are you doing that" I said because i wanted to give my tummy chance to heal and recover/repair itself. She then told me that because all my test were negative there was nothing to suggest I had gastritis even though i was told thats what i had the last time i had to go to hospital. She said there was also nothing to suggest that eating a basic/bland diet would help me at all. She said i had become anxious and was loosing sight of the person I was and she recomended a therapist. She also recomended that I go back onto a normal and regular diet as I am not getting enough calories and she assured me it would be better for me. Now I am very confused and not sure what to do. Also do you think it could be extreme dyspepsia rather then gastritis.

Listen to your body. Your doctor is being an insensitive dick. If these people were forced to deal with for one day what some of us experience constantly, they'd quickly change their tunes.
Unreal, get a new doc!!!

That's rough, as you have to wait for morning to see how the food went. Does it make a difference then if you try foods earlier in the day vs say, dinner time? My issue then sounds more like gastritis then. Actually, yesterday I was doing ok...had a light breakfast, light lunch (gluten free bagel with tuna...not that gluten bothers me anymore than non-gluten). Then was out shopping and for no reason, the nausea comes....without any more food.

I agree with DDR321, your doctor is being really insensitive, and I hate it when they blame physical issues on the person's worries. There is something obviously not right. It would be nice if all we had to do was turn the bad thoughts off and we would feel perfect again...but not so.

Hi DDR, I love to tell my doctor that but I don't think it will get me anywhere, I don't think she is saying its all in my head I think she just wants me to be a little more positive about it. I am a shadow of my former self and a lot of people have noticed I have no fight really left in me.

Hi lu, yes that's true the only real trigger for me is eating too much if I over eat then I've had it I will be in pain all day next day and have to take the day off work. I can eat or seem to be able to eat most things. My question is where do I go from here, does it get better and go away over time or does it get much worse and develop into some thing else. How many more trips to A and E will I have to face or useless doctors appointments I am 30 years old and am at a critical point in my life and can't afford this illness.

I hear you. I think for all of us, we wonder if this will get better (whether gastritis or dyspepsia). When you have your pain, it must be really severe to have to go to A and E. Am sorry. It's probably hard to know how much is too much, and then it's too late. Yeah...totally agree that it's hard to manage...especially when it effects work and socially. I'm 40 with young kids and a busy job, so know what you mean. I hope things improve for you.

Thanks lu, your right it is hard to tell how much is too much I think it all churns around at night and the stomach doesn't empty properly and then the acid swishes in on top and its a train wreck. Then when I wake up its like disturbing an angry nest of bees. It's a strange one and I can't figure it out just yet I just hope its not the start of some thing bad. Working with this is no fun and I wish I didn't have to but the bills don't pay themselves it feels like I am living to work because if I do have to have time of sick I need to know I have money saved.

Hi Steve I have stopped eating anything after 6.30 pm and I have not had any pain attacks for 6 weeks now. That's the longest I have gone without an attack, I do get what I assume to be acid reflux chest type pains but that's it I also don't really get any pains triggered by foods.

Good to know! You found what caused you problem so keep doing what you doing and try to get off all the meds gradually.

I think I have narrowed it down to acid, when I eat too much or late at night I must get a rush of acid that sits there over night and really hurts in the morning. I know I am to out of the woods yes but I do have a better idea of what will trigger my pain, I still feel tired a lot of the time and still don't feel like doing too much, I do want to come off the mess but if I have permanent acid reflux it might be an idea to stay on them.

How are you feeling now.

I'm back on PPI and they seem to be working much better this time then before. I'll give it another month or two and see what happens. Still on my strict diet and once things settle down more I'll start adding more different food items but nothing too provocative. Your biggest problem that you don't have a good diagnosis for your condition. Functional dispepsia is a just a label doctors use when they can't figure what's wrong. Did you try to find better GI doctor? Ty to summarize all of your symptoms and research more on your own? Either way you have to make long term if not lifetime dietary choices that allow you to live pain free and meds free.
