Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
I hate looking at myself I'm down to 98 lbs from 129. Since April. There are days I force myself to eat.
I also switched from a super healthy whole grain diet to bland plain bread and rice...that sucks. I hope to eat well again, but whole grains are killer for the stomach.
Many others that are acids or irritants.
. For most people gastritis goes away .
haha. yeah.. I have to agree. let's remember the great quote from my own (*former*) doctor - "take this pill and eat whatever you want".
That a-hole cost me months and months of pain until I figured out that NO, I really can't eat whatever I want. And if I knew that I would never end up on the Nexium/Protonix/Dexilant bandwagon. Too late now.
Some days my stomach feels so good, my brian fools me to think I can eat whatever I see, but I relieve I will pay the constsegues.
I'm 7 months into this gastritis, and I'm gluten free, I know that's what keeps my weight down, if you want to gain weight it's carbs that will put it on. I was never gluten free, but my natrapath said gluten is like sandpaper on a gastritis stomach.
Yesterday I had a navel orange, after supper, and my stomach felt real good and it speed up my digestion. So I try to have a small amount after each meal, to put some natural acids which our stomachs need, but I would never use vinegar that's to harsh.
If I eat one thing wrong I'll pay for it all day.
I eat vanilla frozen yogurt about 1-2 cups every night and I still can gain weight, I eat plenty of protein foods and supplements and vegetable carbs.I put pure maple syrup on my sweet potatoes, in my plain yogurt, and mix it with my avocodo spread with my rice cakes.
Any more suggestions?
Before I got this thing, I was always trying to lose weight, even though I was actually pretty fit. The thing I could never stay away from is the bad food and I know that just like losing weight, gaining weight can be sidelined the same way.
I think what you have to do is start counting your calories. Make sure you are getting above your needed amount every day. You need approximately 3500 calories EXTRA to gain 1 LB, so if you are coming up short some days and over others, its going to average out.
Thats generally why we are all losing weight is because the good foods we are eating are smaller and have less calories, so you would have to make up in quantity.
I have not had any beef for 8 months, but I can tolerate chicken, ground pork mixed with rice, and white fish, I can't tolerate salmon.
This will be the first thanksgiving that I won't be eating any of those foods. I'll eat ground chicken patty, mashed potato, acorn squash and my homemade gravy without any fats.
That's it. I may attempt to make a pumpkin pie and substitute Lactaid milk for reg milk, or I'll make a lemon meritge pie. But, I'm glad I'll be eating of food, and know next year I'm praying I'll be better.
As long as the calories you get are above your daily functioning requirement, you will gain weight. That doesn't mean you need 3500 calories each day, but it should average out to > daily functioning req over time. 250 extra calories per day and you will gain 1lb about every 2 weeks
