Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
Thank you for sharing, that's very thoughtful of you. I hope you continue to Improve :)
Have you been on a bland diet as well? If yes, could you share diet tips? Thanks.
thank you for responding so fast. I think you have been blessed to be able to continue with a pretty much normal diet. I can pretty much eat 10-15 things ONLY. And my case is "mild". I am happy that things haven't been that hard for you. I hope you stay away from diet coke regardless, as it is so very bad for you, gastritis being the least of them, as I am sure you know. Maybe this was a call for you to kick a bad habit :))
Best wishes and thanks again....
I also do not like to take rx medication. I put off taking it for months and honestly regret it. I'm not trying to discourage you from staying off of them but my GI doctor did tell me in my case, she does not believe this is something i will need to take indefinitely or for a long period of time. She says once you start to feel better on the meds she keeps you on the therapy for 1-2 months then you wean off. I do sometimes feel stressed about the what ifs- like what it I get off the medication and it still comes back. But at this point I'm desperate and will just trust and try whatever she says works and has worked for other patients.
I do like reading up on natural remedies though and would love to hear a true success story!
@countrysunsets-I do hope that your complete healing comes sooner than later. I'm glad to hear that you have at least had the conversation with your doctor and there is a plan to wean you off after a couple of months. When you are at the weaning off point, keep in mind there are supplements you can take to make that transition smoother. My biggest fear with the PPI's is that it masks the problem by reducing the acid production while inhibiting the nutrients that the body needs.
I avoided the big things you mentioned but wasn't getting better. Chicken, for instance. The lean breast KILLS me. But I can do boiled leg with no skin, as long as it is before 6 p.m. Boiled eggs KILL me, but I can have scrambled eggs. I wouldn't even have the guts to try any red meat, lean or not. Cucumbers are a big no no for many people, ginger is a big irritant, lettuce is hard to digest. You have to find which foods you can eat in which form and at what time. Otherwise, you will suffer longer than you would. It is a very individual thing - there are general guidelines, yes, but it is YOUR STOMACH, it is raw and angry, and you should baby it as much as it needs to to repair itself and stop being thrown things at it more than it can handle.
Best wishes...
