Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

Im still getting a lot of pain with my stomach. It seems to get quite severe most days now. I wondered if anyone else has very bad pain at the top of their stomachs. Im wondering if its the gastritis or if its the hiatus hernia. It feels inflamed but I also get the awful burning pain. Im concerned it could be another disorder that I don,t know about. Ive been refused a scan so I don,t know if anything else is causing it. I take 2 Pantoprazole a day now and I take Gaviscon. Other than that I take painkillers like Tramodol. Thanks

Woah! What are you taking with the painkillers? They too could be the source of some of your pain depending on if they are taken on a full stomach or not. Sweetheart, if the pain continues to be severe for more than three days, call the doctor and talk to them about what is going on. It could be the wrong PPI or something as innocent as increased stress due to increased pain (they do tend to trigger off of each other). Hang in there and keep us posted.

Hey Poorlygir41- I have the severe pain up top too! It gets so bad that I feel like my ribs are going to come up.... Pain pills are only a fast fix and will do more harm in the long run.... Last time I used a heating pad to get the muscles to release... it really helped!

Thanks well it hasn,t settled yet. I can feel inflammation up the top. I can,t get a heating pad on where it is as its too far up. I usually take the painkillers before I go to bed but had to take them earlier in the day. They don,t work. I just wish this would heal its stressing me so much. Its really hard to eat too when its flared up. Sainsburys pharmacy told me to go back to the doctors. I don,t know what they can do though. My cousin told me recently that some of my cousins have Rhematoid arthritis,my brother has it too. Also one cousin, who I never see anything of he has cancer. Its very upsetting this is. Dawn, the cousin who told me has a very bad back and may end in a wheelchair. We all need a miracle. Anyway back to the stomach, the gastro suggested 3 PPIs a day and I don,t know whether to take the extra or not. If its bile it may make it worse,I don,t know.

Okay- first you obviously are physically under a lot of stress. That alone is enough to cause a lot of pain. Plus your family has you concerned as well. Perfectly okay, but it effects you also. What you need honestly is one big giant hug. So my friend, many mental hugs!!!! Everyday. Know you are not alone. This pain is horrible, but you are going to make it through this. Call the doctor and until then, breath deep. Just keep going, one step after another. It is a long process and scared or not, you are so much stronger than you think. You are going to make it through this. It IS going to be okay.

Thanks Ravenfish I really hope it is going to be ok and it goes away. Its a big struggle and a lot of stress. I just wish that I could get it under control and get rid of this pain. I would be a lot happier.

When I was on the pantoprazole, it made some of my symptoms worse because they had given me too high of a dose and I guess it wasn't right for me. If you're not noticing that it's helping, you might want to ask if they can test you without it and see if you improve. Also, just something my GI doctor said: NEVER take meds before bed because they end up sitting around in your stomach while you're lying flat and can aggravate everything. I've noticed that I felt better when I started taking things earier in the day. I've also heard that for the stomach pains that they can give you an anti-spasmatic medication that can keep your muscles from tensing and causing the pain. I think it was mostly for IBS, but I don't know what the cause is of your pain. It might be at least worth looking into. I hope you feel better!!

Hi thanks well it makes me wonder if its the pantoprazole. I had pain on Lansoprazole so I don,t know. It seemed to get worse on two Pantoprazole so Im going to take one and sucralfate, maybe Ranitidine if they suggest that. I didn,t know that about taking meds before bed,I have been doing. I can,t see the doctor until next week. Ireally hope it settles down soon. We have lost a pet gerbil too. I know he was only a gerbil but he was so sweet and I used to have him out running on me. A small pet can be a good companion. I have always liked rodents but Im not having anymore at the moment.
