Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

Seeing the gastro

Hi all I have ended up missing my gastro appointment today. I still have a very bad cold and chest. Im getting some gastritis pain too. Now my appointment has been rescheduled for 3 April. I don,t know what the gastro will say to me anyway now. Im relying on the meds which don,t seem to be doing much. Some days the gastritis eases off and then it just comes back. I wonder if the cold is affecting it now. Cold weather too. I have had some Aloe vera in the fridge for over a month. How long does Aloe vera juice keep? Im wondering if it will help everything now but I can,t remember how long its been open. I don,t know how long those Slippery Elm capsules keep either and they have been open months. Maybe I should get some more and write on the date I open them. Do you just keep taking them or throw them away after a while?

first off, i hope you get better from your cold. i get the cold often too and ive been doing some online research and it says that the cold can be produced by the pills you make take for gerd or gastritis. i also have aloe vera juice in the fridge, i am not sure how long it can last before going bad since it is a natural medicine. as for the pills, i have never heard of them, is it for acid as well?

Hi ayra,thanks. Well my husband had the cold first then I got it but I haven,t had a cold for ages. It does make you worry about side effects and getting other things on the meds though. I don,t know how you manage to work out with the gastritis. Its good that you do but don,t overdo it. I do a bit of gardening in Spring or Summer which helps take my mind off this. I know it causes a lot of stress so we have to cope with that as well. Slippery elm is suposed to be wonderful for any stomach problem. I haven,t took it a lot as it can stop absorbtion of the antacid meds,my doctor said so. You have to leave 2 hours after taking meds before you can take the Slip elm,or any other natural meds. So its a nuisance. You can find stuff on the internet about Slippery elm. I think the Aloe vera keeps for a month in the fridge,though it doesn,t say. I think I read that once on a bottle of it. I will get some more soon. I may get more Slip elm,You really don,t know what to do for the best.

Have you checked to see if there is a date on the aloe juice and slippery elm? Most things these days have to have dates on them--maybe on the caps?

Hi sunlovinmom,yes there are dates on them for expiry but I wondered how long they keep if they are opened. The Slippery elm date is until next year but surely you can,t keep it opened until then? I don,t know. Maybe you can and just keep taking it. I haven,t got into a routine of taking it as you have proberly noticed. How are you now? Are all the supplements curing it? I admire that you manage to keep up with taking them all.
