I went to the alton towers hotel to stay for a night with all the family, we went to a buffet restaurant in the hotel. The food was amazing they had lots of mexican, seaford, chinese and traditional roasts. I really wasn't happy becasue i knew i couldn't have most of this stuff on offer, not to mention the selection of cake and ice cream they had. Futhermore it was 20 per head so i knew i wouldn't get my monies worth. In the end i settled for sliced carrots and gravey, and after i had a small peice of baked cod which was amazing. I didn't want to push it as i didn't want to ruin the rest of the day for everybody by having a bad tum. Some may call this a success, and maybe it was but it was torture as before i got gastitis i would have really tucked in, one thing i have learned is that its amazing how much pleasure we get from food.

Hey James. I hear you. So unfair that you were so limited...and that's with a buffet wtih many choices. And you certainly coudn't have gotten your moneys worth. I've also been finding that baked fish (done simply without lots of sauces) seems to be ok for an outside meal, but still pay for it.

buffets are my worst nightmare. I need to be able to ask ingredient questions and often can't in that situation. I didn't realise how much food impacted my life until I got gastritis and IBS. I dream of a time when I don't have to ask the staff what are the ingredients in this? May never happen though.
Glad you found something to eat but I feel your pain James.

soretum, makes sense about buffets. Although there are many choices, they are usually loaded with oil, sauces, msg (depending on kind), etc.

I take back what I said. Ended up feeling nauseous on the above (and it doesn't get much simpler than that aside from ordering a plan bagel). Sucks. Husband and I are planning a nice meal out for our anniversary coming up and...what can I order without paying for it afterwards?

I would probably go for Tuna jacket potatoe or some type of chicken dish with mash, or a fish dish with some boiled vegetables so long as the sauce is not cheesey . Cream I can handle then if you feel your stomach gurgling a lot then I would take a swig of gaviscon before bed . Then next day eat more simply .

Don't eat meat/fowl but do eat fish (so chicken not an option). That's the thing...the veggies were pretty much broiled and no sauce (probably a bit of olive oil). Yeah, and I've been taking zantac prior to restaurant meals or meals at friends homes, even if feeling ok to begin with.

Hi Lu, Can I just ask how far down the line you are with your Gastritis recovery as i am in the very early stages, actually total lie i am at the very beginning and have only just switched to a very basic diet. I am just trying to gauge how long its taking us to recover. Tell you what though I went to asda/walmart and bought 2 pieces of unsmoked river cobbler they come in oven ready bags and take about half an hour in the oven, its much cheaper than cod and tastes simular, try it.

What did you drink lu? Did you eat pudding? Any starters . Any alcohol?

Did have a small bite of a grilled Portobello mushroom appetizer, but that's it. No dessert. Meal was very simple.

Hello James; all my sympathies . Man oh man this thing is hard as you are experiencing first hand. Let me give you some hope :) . I developed gastritis last year August ( 2012 ) , and let me add I am such a ninny with pain and nausea. We are going into June and I would gauge I am 95 % there. I tried the ppi route , did not work for me. Homeopathic route did. I am off all meds which is awesome! Lots and lots of prayer and understanding from friends and family helped make the road more bearable. I still get occasional bouts of nausea ( which I hate ) . But just want to add because I am such a sissy with pain etc I stuck to my diet to the letter. I still don't eat tomatoe or pizza as I need some courage there. As you are also aware this thing messes big time with your mind. Still scared to try too much new things..... But I am healing , so dont lose hope , it can happen....

Hi seeinglight, Your right its horrible one minute your plodding along nicely and the next thing your in agony, confused and not sure whats wrong. Then you go to the doctors and they give you ppi's and then you realise this is not the road to recovery as i have leaned when I joined DS. I am very glad you managed to recover I also hope to make a good recovery too. I am still in the early stages and am trying to sort out my diet into a good routine i already learned i don't take toast/bread well so thats been cut out. The after that i will look at slowing down on the ppi's so my tummy can operate normally again. When and if i recover i will be very careful and will do everything i can to prevent a repeat attack.

Never noticed until suffering from gastritis how social things revolve around food. Next week will have 2 occurnces of meeting up with friends in a restaurant, another evening for our anniversary, pizza dinner this weekend for bday party and dinner for father's day. All celebrations / catching up tih friends, but I just wonder how I'll feel after each event....and in a restaruant, what do i order?
