Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

Restaurant Eating

Thuoght I'd start a topic on eating out. I was away for 4 days in New York and I definitely coulnd't quite enjoy the trip due to diet restrictions (plain oatmeal for breakfast, bagel for lunch). Today at work, they were having a lunch celebration at a Thai restaurant. I didn't go as it wasn't worth it to me to feel totally nauseous and with pains afterwards (can't order a simple lunch there). End of the month, my husband and I are being taken out for a really nice dinner to celebrate joint birthdays.

How do you deal with going out and still being able to enjoy...and not sit back since there will be nothing you can eat?

Thought of another complication with us in terms of eating out. What do you do if you're invited to someone's house for dinner and it's a set meal (as opposed to buffet style). It's one thing if it's a close family member or friend who knows what you're going through, but what if it's someone you're not as close with. You don't want them to change their entire course for you (and I don't eat meat so people often go out of their way for me as is). And at the same time, you don't want to offend them by eating nothing.

In that situation I would say I'd love to come and to keep it easy for you I'll bring my own meal as I have many food restrictions just now. I've done that with close friends as well in the early days. I did it for me as my anxiety would explode if I added the hostesses worries into the mix. I think you'll find people will surprise you. In three years I've had NO negative responses with all my questions etc.
We really need to focus on how to navigate this illness don't we? It throws up so many questions and problems that many other health issues don't due to the food connection. Please know how important you are and value that in all your decisions. The rest of the world will survive no matter what we have to do for our buggered bellies.
