Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
The Prilosec gives me achey legs and makes me tired:( I'm supposed to take 2 20mg pills a day but take 1/2 pill a day to keep the pain's edge off. All the PPI's can make you anemic or deficient in ceratin vitamins: Iron, Magnesium, B12 and some other B's. I think that may be why I get tired from most of them. I have gastritis from bile so I use an herb called Slippery Elm everyday. It coats my stomach very well.
I tried ....oh heck, what's the name?! The most expensive OTC one currently but it made me dizzy! Prevacid I think it was.
Zantac makes me headachy and tired. Zegarid makes my gastritis worse. Nexium gave me really bad breath that smelled like doodoo!
Ask your Dr's for samples perhaps!
I think I am going to try Slippery elm. Do you take capsules or buy the powder? Where do you buy it? Has it helped you a lot?
Yes, I feel slippery elm has helped a lot--really seems to coat the stomach quite well, but I also use aloe juice in water, DGL licorice, and Carafate.
Best of luck!
Incidentally, speaking of gastritis, has anyone else had it kick up with the cooler air? Mine seems really affected by my fibromyalgia pain in my back---and the air outside here is COLD! Been kind of a nasty few days lately. I started to write out a few Christmas cards, but couldn't sit for very long--only got a few done.
I was concerned for a while that I was generally going backwards, and I had begun previously to move ahead, so I thought, "what am I doing wrong?!" Yes--this weather, at least the cold weather here, can do a number on the poor old body!
