Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
I too am figuring out what's best. I find that if I eat small amounts then I am the best. Doctors told me to avoid citrus, tomatoes, spicy and fried food, and to limit coffee, chocolate and alcohol (which I am not cutting out but do limit). For foods, I'll either have say, a simple bagel for dinner (others have commented that they are better gluten free, but I have not tried that route), salmon done simply or a non spicy veggie burger. I will have a small amount of spinach on the side. I am also "ok" with apples, and bananas. Honestly though, I have not found a food that I can eat and be fine...it really depends on the day and when the nausea decides to start.
I hope you find some relief. I am also interested in what others have to say.
As for being shy about the colonoscopy, I hear you. I actually had colitis 25 years ago and had many scopes at that end. Talk about turning red. Had my colon since removed so thought my tummy problems were done with, and now this.
Keep us posted in how you're doing.
Again, this is not for everyone, but it worked for me--check with doc for an opinion. Good luck!
