Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

How to tell which problem is causing my pain? Anybody else have trouble figuring out which one is causing the problem, and what diet guidelines to follow? My pain has been going on for a month now. It calmed down a bit and is often down to a 2 when I wake up in the morning. Eat something and it goes up.
Stomach vibrations drive me nuts. Back and forth between diarrhea and constipation. The last is probably from taking too much Imodium to correct the first! Im living on Farina, toast and yogurt. Taking my PPIs and other antacids.
Ill be posting this in the four different support groups to see if there are others out there with similar problems.

I have gastritis and IBS. I guess it's easier for me to tell them apart as I had gastritis for 12 months before the IBS came calling. they both cause pain in the gut but for me the IBS is lower and to the right over the liver/bowel area.
My gastritis pain is a burning, gnawing pain that makes me want to put ice cubes in my belly.
I took Elavil for several years to correct that problem. It's still not perfect, as I'm told it's a motility issue, but definitely manageable. I still have a slight sense of urgency in the early morning, but mostly it's controllable. I just can't wait TOO long, though! :)
Just wondering if something like Elavil might be helpful for you. Elavil is actually an antidepressant, but I was prescribed it for its strong side effect of being very drying. The one bad side effect was that it made me very sleepy, even the next day, so I took it about 2 hours before bedtime. It took time, but definitely helped. In general, it calmed things down.
Not sure if this would work though for you, being you also have constipation, but it may be worth checking out with your GI doc. We're all different, so hard to say. Wishing you the best.
Oddly enough, my chronic asthma has abated lately and I quit taking the Symbicort that I used to take. I could just be that the neighbors who smoke have quit or gone vacationing, but that is a nice break.
I have had many good months now regarding the gastritis, but yesterday I had major fibro pain which kicked up the very "dormant" gastritis. I believe it's the connection between my back's muscles and my stomach area.
Anyway, those connections can be very annoying. I think having one is enough! I'm sticking with a pretty bland diet again until things tame down again.
