Did they find any bile in your stomach during your scope? If they did, you could have Bile Reflux causing your Gastritis. PPI's don't help that kind of Gastritis at all.

You can expect siilar acid rebound effect form any PPI, it more depends on dosage. You can try different kinds and see if it makes you feel better.

Lori, is bile something that would be obvious or is it a separate test? The only thing my GI mentioned that he saw in the endoscope was inflammation (and no infection came back).

Steve, so it's possible that another ppi may help me more? I'm not on a big dosage of tecta, but have heard of others who said it didn't help them, and since I still experience daily nausea, I'm wondering if I should ask to try another one.

Hi Im on Lansoprazole and Im not getting any relief from my gastritis pain. Ive been on Omeprazole and Pantoprazole too. All I know is that I was told Omeprazole was one of the weakest PPIs. I was told that Pantoprazole was good but it didn,t work for me. Also Nexium is said to be the best but it is more expensive. Also other people say that taking a PPI can actually cause gastritis as it stops the food digesting then it irritates the stomach causing gastritis. I don,t know any answers and its very painful for me. The herbal route is said to be better but it interferes with the meds. I have to have another endoscopy soon so I will see hopefully what Im up against and hopefully the cause. I don,t know if its bile reflux but last time I had one it came up negative for H pylori and bile so I don,t know. Keep on at your doctor and I hope you get some answers soon.

Hi poorlygirl, I spoke to my GP and he has switched me to Lansoprazole so we'll see if this one works. Not sure why he picked this one over another? It sounds like it's helping you so that's great. For me, my symptoms is nausea, so just want to get rid of it.

I'm on 30 mg of prevacid and 40 mg of pepcid daily, split AM/PM. They are different types of med. Prevacid is a ppi, pepcid is an H2 blocker. Gastro said prevacid is good for my gerd and pepcid is better for gastritis because it works on the nerves and therefore helps the pain signal loop. I think you need to try several until you find what works for you. And just as a side note, for those of us who will most likely need to take this very long term remember these meds are bad for our bones and we need to be careful about taking our calcium and magnesium, but not at the same time as other meds.

Thanks Nina. I do the same...take the PPI first thing in the morning (now trying prevacid) and then take zantac...one late morning if needed and on around dinner if needed...and tums as needed. I don't have gerd, but suffer from constant nausea (which must be an acid imbalance from the gastritis). I heard the same too with the calcium, but dont' want to overdue it as I take tums (think it has calcium). What do you get magnesium in?
