hi and welcome. symptoms may vary. burning, gnawing pain is common along with a tightness in the gut. have a browse around the site by putting in something your looking to know and it will take you to posts or discussions that may help.Yes flare ups can happen if we eat something on the not to list. check dietary assistance. all food must be easily digestible. maybe see a dietician or naturopath for more help with this.

thanks for your replys...just trying to get some info on it. I have SOD and had an ercp 4 years ago. Was pain free for that time and than suddenly all of this. Had some epigastric pain (relatively sharp pain but didn't last too long), pain on left and right side. Started with a few days of heart burn. After a week of eating as normal and just dealing with minor pain, heartburn, nausea it started to get worse. I was constipated, filled with gas, hungry but nauseated and felt like my upper abdominal area and back were on fire! Seriously bad burning. I did have slight burning throughout my entire stomach also. Have had my pancreas looked at (no chronic pancreatitis) and a biopsy of stomach done. They found no h-pylori but they did find chronic gastritis. Was wondering if this could have caused everything or even if it is my SOD returning and perhaps that caused this. Just looking for info on how to feel better.

Check out the DIetary Assistance post. A lot of it has to do with diet. And though it is difficult to do, keeping stress far away from your life is the best option you have. Anxiety and stress only add to your discomfort. Keep your diet as plain as you can. Read the labels on everything. Avoid acids. Keep your grains white. Small meals, instead of large. But you can eat a few a day. Check into nutritional drinks if you need more calories. Steam, bake, or cook everything. Nothing with skins. And really, just take it a day at a time. You are going to have a lot of bad days before even one good day in sight. But eventually you get it under control and things do improve. Consult with your doctor too to see if you can get to a nutritionist. It can be a help.

I echo everything ravenfish said. EVen though I've had this for 6and half months your stage is probably the hardest. Realisation has set in that you're in for the long haul. I joined the group at the 2 month mark and it has been my saving grace. It will and does get easier and better. This is such a great group of supportive and caring people so feel free to unoad as you need to. As you do you'll be helping others as well.
