Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
I had no success with Carafete. Maybe you can try Slippery Elm instead.
I understand completely about being scared to take meds.Ever since I was diagnosised with gastritis, Ive tried not to put anything in my stomach that isn't necessary. I was on Nexium 40mgs daily until yesterday when my GP decided that I should be on 80mgs a day. I panicked and said I think thats to much. He assured me it was ok.So i going to try it for two weeks and see.
Im only taking slippery Elm at night now as it gave me headaches.
Good Luck xox
I'd still love to see a list of what different people use concurrently and what they like the best. I am also fighting IBS-C which might be complicating things a little. At this point I am not treating my MS anymore and have never used any meds for Osteoporosis. The meds for Osteo scare me to death.
So if someone could list what they use strictly for gastritis, pain, nausea, weird stuff etc, I would lean something about taking care of myself. Thanks again.
Also... I get confused about the PPI's. Some say don't use them, others say use them regularly. More confusion.
Therefore, as previously stated, Zantac/Pepcid and PPIs are only doing you HARM.
I have also previously advised you to address the low stomach acid by taking Betaine HCI, the link/info to which was present in that post.
Randomly taking meds without understanding your condition or what the meds do, will make your life a real... adventure. Have fun.

He also told me I could stop the PPI and use any OTC remedies I can find that help"
Ok, to be more precise, your problem was diagnosed as "not producing too much acid", therefore my logical conclusion was for you to try Betaine HCI in case you have low stomach acid.
I have also probably advised you at some previous point to try digestive enzymes (Source Naturals).
But getting on Pepcid/Zantac or PPIs when your problem isn't excessive acid, is useless at best, harmful at worst.
there was a thread some weeks ago about low acid and how beatine helped, maybe you can find it.
I take no ppi or h2 meds at all anymore after 16 yrs.
I'm convinced they were not only not helping, but were hindering my recovery.
I use KiosDs which is an herbal stomach med -
my other meds are thyroid meds, and whatever I might take for pain on a bad day, either tylenol or tussin with codeine (rarely).
Otherwise I take:
Magnesium 500 mg twice a day
Calcium
Potassium
81 mg aspirin ( strokes run in the family )
high dose B vitamins
Soya Lecithin
5 htp low dose
And various herbal tinctures from my ND depending on what's happening with my CFS
If things like Zantac or Pepcid are out what can I do for the nausea and stomach pain? I'm sorry but I don't remember anything about Betaine HCI. Where is it found.... health food stores? And what does it do?
My PH test showed some acid, but not much and my lower esophageal sphincter is a little loose, letting some acid up. I guess I was asking you about general treatments for gastritis. You can see I don't know much about this. The thing that really scares me are these spasms.... like palpitations. In fact. they might actually be palps. Very hard to distinguish between them.
Don't give up on me friends. I need a lot of help as you can tell.
If any of you get esophageal spasms what do you use to treat this? I have some GI Cocktail, but will only use it if things are really fluttering a lot. I'm not convinced this is esophageal spasms.
