Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

I got the results of my malabsorption breath tests and I'm ok with fructose but there is evidence of lactose malabsorption. Given my reaction to the lactose test last week I was expecting that. I won't to to what I extent until I see the GI doctor next Wednesday. Fingers crossed it will be temporary and I won't lose my yummy yoghurt for too long, if at all.
I have the dietician at the end of the month so I'll take it from there.

Yogurt may still be okay. It depends on how severe it is, but also what type of lactose it is too. Some foods are easier to digest than others and some upset the GI more. Fingers crossed and best wishes.

I'm hanging on to my delicious full fat organic yoghurt as long as I can. I have another lactose challenged friend and she emailed me some info on it too. Some cheese might be ok. I've been limiting my intake of both and will stick with that until I see the dietician later in the month. My GP also said small amounts of the yoghurt should be fine over the day.

Can you send me the info. on cheeses? I have been trying to find out some of those myself but so far have been hitting a bit of a brick wall....

will do. i'm resting dairy cheese for now and my protein supplement may have to change for a while. I'll wait and see what the dietician says on the 25th.

something I discovered today. Gastritis and other GI problems can cause lactose malabsorption. I'm thinking that could be my cause. At this point it matters little. Treating it is more important.

UK Mild lacto Intolerance til mid 50s, family have lacto probs, bout of bad food posioning 2013 and now diagnosed lacto intolerant. Breath test 198 - also tested for fructose
29 - 30 considered fructose intolerant so really stuck with foods. Consultant said that because of my lacto test the fructose test would mean that it would be difficult for me with vegs as well. Having really bad probs trying to reintroduce vegs that I can tolerate cant even have lacto free products, probs with soya so really stuck, even had to postpone hols this year due to health, deciding what, and were, and how would be best so in the end after anxiety over it all decided to go next year - yes I gave in. Nightmare, but as Ive also been either a veggie or low fat diet all my life, and dont eat alot of sweets not so bad I guess. But positive now as Ive seen posts on here and know that Im not alone. Thanks

Did wonder if I had poor malabsorption but dietician reckons not, I disagree.

Mercifully I am no longer lactose intolerant. Over time it just fixed itself.
