Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

Sadly I've lost my favourite fruit - mango. I last tried it two years ago with disastrous results and again yesterday I psyched myself up to try it. What amazes me with gastritis is how such a small amount of something bad can unleash over 12 hours of pain on my stomach.
I guess I have to find another favourite now.

wow, I have cronic gastritis and I eat mangos all the time. Actually this is a fruit that agrees with me the most.
It's strange how everyone of us reacts differently.
I hope you are feeling better.

The pain stayed with me for over 14 hours and I'm feeling fragile today but will bounce back. I think its insane that I can handle garlic, onions and tomatoes and still not the mango. I think for me mango may be too fibrous. Not sure really. I know the juice is good for digestion but I'm even too scared to try that now. Glad you can eat them. Enjoy one for me next time.

Mango is a stone fruit. Watch out for other stone fruits, they will hv the same effect.
Once I bought 5 boxes of mango from Flemington Markets in Sydney, they were selling it cheap. I wanted to make mango puree. My husband who loves mangoes, MangoMad, demolished 2 boxes in one evening. The next morning he woke up with hives all over his body, eyes swelled like goldfish, lips were swollen and disfigured. He had to go to the doc for some epi shots and anithistermine. These days he still eats one or two mangoes but no more in mega quantities. lol!!!!

I know that feeling of giving up your favourite food. I used to have Pizza Huts suicide wings at least twice a month, and its still really the only fast food I get cravings for.

Maybe one day, lol

Hi Maxirose,(fellow Aussie),
I can handle all other stone fruits including nectarines. I limit how I eat them due to my IBS. the pain ended up staying with me for over 26 hours. Safe to say I'll NEVER eat them again.

Could it be the fiber in the manages?
I would hate to have to give up on mangoes. Then again, I have to give up on eggs. Simply cannot handle eggs, even if egg whites touches my skin, it blistered. Same with my teenage daughter, we both cannot tolerate eggs. :( We both were infected by helicobacter Pylori, treated and are now Pylori free. Must be the perforated guts caused by pylori bacteria that keep sipping sensitive food into our blood streams. Can't explain the external skin sensitivity.

While I loved my mangoes I can live without them. Losing eggs must be so difficult. I think it is the fibre in the mango. As always we must focus on what we can eat an move on.
