Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

I'm getting much, much better. So better that I'm getting adventurous! I ate a simple, non dressing salad composed of lettuce, peas, mushrooms, carrots, and olives (which I haven't tried olives yet). I can now keep down white cheese, but not yellow. And I can eat fricking chocolate! Frickin chocolate!
While I seem so damn happy about this, and damn well should be, I still have concerns. One being my incredibly sudden weight gain. Though it was four pounds, I lost a total of twelve pounds and one pant size and plan to keep it that way! Only one problem: eating anything other than saltines makes me gain weight! The other problem is I still can't eat yellow cheese, which is the small problem. Not only can I not eat anything hot or spicy, but anything hot or spicy makes my tongue feel like it's on fire! I know if it make my tongue irritated, my stomach can't handle it. But, I can't eat anything spicy no more? Like, ever? And I mean seriously, anything overly peppered or tastes like garlic or onions irritates my tongue!

I miss spicy foods too! It's been a year and a half but my gastritis is chronic. Enjoy your yummy food! Always like hearing good news!

i would be careful with some foods although you have alot more freedome you dont want to overdue it. even though you feel alot better your stomach is still healing. In my oppinion its not that you cant eat spicy foods, its just you want to use your judgement of what you should eat. for example I love chocolate but becuase Iv had gastritis and acid reflux I only eat it once in a while even though it dosnt cause extreme pain for me i still try to be careful because I do not want to have gastritis again.and the sudden weight gain I am guessing that maybe you werent eating very much and your body is now unsure of where your next meal will come from.

It comes back. Give it time and you are going to have plenty of variety.

my big challenge is the next few weeks. tonight there's a pizza party, this friday there's a fish fry and don't get me started on easter with all the chocolates and banquet of country foods featuring ham! I'll just pack something for myself on pizza night, though I'd be tempted for a bite. fish fry should be okay, depending on how battered the cods are. and I'm sure on easter, with all the foods they make, I can work around it and make a small plate for myself. also, I'm making grape apple pie for easter, so I'm sure the relatives will forgive me for not eating so much, lol

I have been using Candied Ginger, it was advised on another post--I have to tell you it's helping--as long as I don't bite into it--my system cant take the instant heat from it but it can tolerate me sucking on it. it's a bit pricey so I only use it when I truly have to--lately that's more then once a day.
