Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

Either that, or one of the medicines I've been taking caused it. I had a good amount of chest pain and a decent amount of Heart Palpitations a few days after taking Carafate. I went to the ER just to make sure it wasn't anything serious, and all the tests came back normal. But now whenever I feel a tightness in my chest, or my arm gets a little numb, I start to worry about it a lot, which makes it worse...

I told my GP, and he gave me some anxiety medicine. It helps, but I don't want to become addicted to them. I'm going to try and see a therapist pretty soon. Hope it helps...

Anyone else have to deal with something like this...?

I deal with everything you just said, except the arm pain. My pain is in my chest, throat, and back mostly. I do know that anxiety can cause limb numbness and pain so it may be the anxiety causing that. I am on carafate and prilosec and can't seem to get ahead of the pain :(
I too have anxiety and take ativan and xanax when needed, which unfortunately is a lot lately. As soon as the chest pain and throat tightness starts I need to take something so my anxiety doesn't exacerbate the gastritis symptoms. I know taking meds is not the best but for now its what I have t do to get through this. I totally empathize with you and please know you're not alone :)

I had read somewhere that the complications of gastritis doesn't allow the stomach to absorb or trigger your body to produce some enzymes, one is the one that controls anxiety and that is why gastritis suffers have anxiety too. I'll have to see if I can find the study again and post the link.

I too have developed anxiety , it seems to just be a vicious circle it causes me a lot of grief. I am taking homeopathic remedy for anxiety. It helps as well as EFT (tapping) helps calm my anxiety. I am also learning to do deep breathing 2x a day am and pm. Dr. Weil has a short video on his web page for controlling anxiety through the consistent practice of deep breathing. Similar to yoga .
I am still waiting for a diagnoses which has contributed to the vicious cycle of worry and pain.
