Hi, I am just the same as you been on PPIs for over a month still got pain, like you I am very anxious which makes things worse, is there long term improvement with PPIs, and how much can you take daily and for how long.

Short answer is it takes up to six weeks to show the improvement. Along with that a person needs to follow a strict diet. I am sure you have seen the list of foods that are good to eat while having problems with gastritis, stick with them with very small meals maybe five times a day. Keep a list of the foods that give you trouble and avoid them. I found it took several years to find all the culprits. I also found that depending on the severity of the gastritis some foods may be fine one time and at other you might react to it. Be patient as healing takes time. Hope you are doing better.

Hi, just joined the group and saw the comments about PPIs. In my case, Omeprazole 40mg made no improvement in 2 weeks. Much later, as an experiment I tried Dexilant 60mg. After 3 weeks I finally noticed an improvement, I’d say pain cut in half. Great feeling, but I was never able to get better than that. After using it for almost a year, and still have occasional flare-up’s, I tried to wean myself off it, by switching to 30mg gradually, and then went from daily to on-demand. I can go for 1-2 weeks without any pills, but eventually I go back when the flare-up’d return. I’m now exploring homeopathic options, too early for any conclusions.

Anyone found any relief? Been suffering from gastritis since September and trying to find some hope that things will get better. On a PPI.....had one 1 month of no stomach pain but it is back again.

Gastritis tends to come back easily. You have to manage the diet part for a good 9 months to a year. Before this eating a trigger food will bring it back pretty fast. This issue is all about managing the diet for a long time. Being on a ppi doesnt teach you what you need to do from a diet ooint of view. Diet is tge key to making this issue only bother you once in two years and for only a day, Mental health plays a big role too. This is a hard work discipline process. It gets you to a way better place. Its the inly thing that gives you long term relief.

I can't seem to tolerate PPIs. I have an autoimmune illness and it has
caused all kinds of symptoms
I have erosive gastritis. I am currently taking 80 mg of Pepcid. Have tried some carafate and Manuka honey. I have had so many tests with little explanation after these that I am feeling confused.

Sorry to hear about your symptoms! I have an endoscopy tomorrow. Two months ago I had major gas- burping/flatulence.. lasted intensely for a week.. then excess for two months. I went to dt and they did nothing! I got abdominal and pelvic ultrasounds which showed nothing. Then about 2 weeks ago burning in chest- still have excess burping- and weird stomach pain. So, that brings me to endoscopy tomorrow and am very nervous. Anyone get this? prilosec 20mg has helped the burning quite a bit but clearly still an issue there..

I've had symptoms of gastritis since September. First it was pain below ribs, nausea, bloating. PPIs (40 mg twice a day) finaly worked after 3 months. I had two upper endoscopies. First showed gastritis and duodenitis, second showed gastritis. Ultrasound clear. I still have bloating and gas in upper stomach with mild pain after almost every meal. I take pantoprazole 20 and metoclopramide 10. It seems like it takes a very long time to heal.
