Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

Hi,  I'm  somewhat relieved to find you all.  I'm scared and seemingly not getting better. Going on 7 weeks now with gastritis.  Took a month to get the endoscopy done.  (They were that backed up.)No H-pylori, no cancer. Waiting for those biopsy results was fun.  Probably made my gastritis even worse!  So,  I have chronic gastritis with a few other terms that mean my stomach is raw and sick! No ulcers. I'm on 40mg generic prilosec twice a day,  Carafate 4x a day. Without those I'd be absolutely miserable or even in the hospital. I have nausea everyday.  It's like, this is my life now... Nauseated most of the day. I've lost 17 lbs.  I can only tolerate this Garden of Life plant based protein powder that I mix (nutri-bullet) with non-fat plain yogurt and a banana. I do that twice a day. It's all I can force myself to eat. On top of all this,  they suspect I also have PBC... It's a liver disease. Apparently it's an auto immune thing.  My own body is attacking my liver.  I've never been a depressed person.  I'm a 57 year old married female. Housewife, no kids. Dogs and cats we love. Country living on 6 acres. Fall in Kansas.... My favorite.  But I'm in bed,  nauseated,  scared,  and depressed. The PBC tests aren't confirmed yet, but they started me on the drug already. My doctor was so sure from my blood tests. Biopsy for that in December. I know this gastritis is slow going. Just have to be patient, and try to be positive.  Thanks for reading!  It was nice to vent. ❤

It's good to vent in this forum. We have some understanding as to what your going through. I have reduced my PPI from 20mg in the day and evening to once daily. After being on these pills and having no flare ups in a month the Dr said I should reduce 50% to which I now have burning and nauseous every day. Pharmacist and dr said these are rebound effect. I have to continue like this for another 2 weeks and if no improvement then will have to return to evening dose again. Just when i thought things were getting better and now I feel like I am at stage 1. I feel your pain. To calm nausea I also take manuka honey 15+ and also dgl.t they protect stomach lining. I feel they do have some positive effects at times. Maybe worth a try? I hope you do get better . I have now come to realise that this is battle in which I have to stay strong emotionally and mentally. Stress and anxiety will as almost certainly worsen gastritis. This has taken me months of getting my head round. But it can be difficult especially when all you want to do is eat a simple meal without pain. You will get better. Trust me. Take care.

Thank you gastoff. I'm sorry for what's happening to you too. I couldn't stand that nausea and burning. I can't imagine returning to that. What is dgl.t? Not sure with my PBC disease I can do the honey. Frustrating for sure. I know some who are on 60 mg prilosec twice a day. I didn't realize there was a rebound effect. I really don't care if I'm stuck drinking these protein powder shakes from now on. I hate to be nauseated and that stomach burning ache! Seriously it robs me of any and all joy. They did also give me Tramadol for pain. If I have to go back to stage one again..... I'm afraid the big T will have to be in the picture. It's probably bad for my stomach. Why no Carafate for you? It coats the stomach. It has helped me.

Is carafate prescription only? Not heard of it here in the UK. DGL is a natural herbal liquorice tablet that also coats the stomach. It does a pretty good job of it and best of all there are no side effects unlike most medicated drugs. I'm trying to go down the natural route as much as possible to heal my stomach. How you feeling today?

Monday was horrible. Today a little better. But eating makes it worse, plus I have zero appetite anyway. Still doing the plant protein smoothie. Still have nausea and upper back ache. I have PBC too. Auto immune Liver issues. They think it's exacerbating the gastritis. Yes carafate is prescription only. Do you have an appetite? How do you feel afterwards... After you eat?

No appetite bloating burning stomach back pain side pain when I eat I feel bloated EGD week ago gastritis and erosions this is the worst

So it is gastritis? Are you nauseated too? Sorry to hear your going through this. What meds did they prescribe you? From what I've read on this forum, patience is key. Hang in there. You are not alone.

I totally empathize with you, I too have recently been diagnosed with gastritis and was living on Garden of Life Meal shakes...except I am an idiot and was using chocolate flavor. Totally set me back and will be returning it. What flavor do you use? I find the plain taste is too terrible for me to handle.
I am also super nauseous 24-7 and I feel like I have rocks in my stomach and throat. I have chest tightness and trouble breathing sometimes. I am on Prilosec and had to start carafate again today due to a flair up. Super frustrating and I get anxious at the thought of living like this forever. If you find any relief, please share with me so I can try as well :)

Hi whitleyc, sorry I missed your post. Not to be a downer but, I'm going on 2 months with this gastritis! I have good days... bad days. It's a rollar coaster ride. All the same I still have zero appetite, I have lost 20 lbs, and I'm still drinking the plant based Garden of Life protein powder smoothies 2 x a day.. My flavor is vanilla but I add like 10 blueberries. My stomach tolerates those. Banana can constipated so watch out there. I don't know if I'm typical, having this for 2 months! Sometimes food smells good to me but, not good enough to eat it. I am nauseated all the time even taking 40mg of prilosec 2x a day. I was prescribed zofran 4 mg for the nausea. It works... sort of. And I take carafate every 6 hours. I am a different person. I used to be happy, cheerful and looked forward to the day.... All that is gone. I've been told to be patient... My GI doc is perplexed as to why I'm not turning a corner to getting better. I also have been diagnosed with PBC auto immune liver disease. They are beginning to think the gastritis may be related. Anyway.... I'm sick! How are you doing now?
