Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
I only take DGL as part of Gastromend HP, where I don't have to chew it and it's a small quantity.
I have been using PenZIn , but I've reading about gastromend hp, that many Nathropath dr are prescribing, if I take gastromend do I need to stop PenZIn ?
Is there any brand that's better then others, I read that the one on amazon that sells for 42.00 for a 15 day supply was recommend.
2) Gastromend HP includes PepZin GI as one of the ingredients. It is up to you which to take and when. The only two concerns would be
a) Gastromend has mastic gum, which can be constipative in some people, so if you get that effect, reduce dose or stop
b) One capsule of Gastromend has 4mg zinc, one capsule of PepZin GI or Ulcetrol has 8mg zinc. I would try not to exceed 64mg zinc per day, that's just my safety limit based on research. It is well below dangerous levels.
Overall Gastromend can have a far greater healing effect than PepZin GI by itself, especially in beginning stages, when you just want to get rid of the pain and start digesting things like chicken. I recommend taking 2 capsules before bed and 2 capsules in the morning... and after morning capsules, don't eat for at least 30minutes... preferably an hour.
And then take probiotic with food.
I've been on dexilant 60mg since April, and Pepcid 20mg at night.
I'm going to drop the dexilant and take the Pepcid instead twice a day.and so how it goes,if I have a problem I'll do dexilant every other day. I have osteoporosis so I can't stay on these forever.
That's for your insight. My PCP and GI drs gave me no advice at all.just more pills.
However all this stuff seems to work better long-term when there's less food in the stomach.
Gastromend really should NOT be taken with food or soon after eating food. The mastic gum ingredient is a localized antibiotic (inside stomach only), which can kill off not only H. Pylori but beneficial flora as well.
Hence, probiotics.
In regards to your transition to Pepcid, I think it's a smart decision, however you have to be very careful. It's gonna be weaker than Dexilant, and you may get acid rebound.
When you switch to 20mg Pepcid every 12 hours, give yourself at least several days to monitor, specifically at around 8 hours since inception.
If your stomach starts burning before it's time to take the next Pepcid, then you will need to either take 20mg every 8 hours, or 40mg every 12 hours.
Pepcid, like any acid-lowering medication, will also have B12 malabsorption, but it's less severe than with PPIs, and you can compensate for it by this:

If you're too lazy to hold the pill under tongue, try the traditional "swallow" version, this is the highest dose I could find:

It's also sold in Walgreens. However, it's going to be less effective.
On the PenZIn bottle, it says to take with or after meals twice a day.
I take B12 1000mg sl
4 months is not that long on it, I'll give Gastromend a try, and I ordered the b12, in July it was 311, next week having blood work I'll be curious to see my counts.
You have to be specific about your schedules. When going off the Dexilant, surely you took Pepcid instead, and so, "2pm" means nothing to me because I don't know WHEN you took it, therefore I don't know how long it took for Pepcid 20mg to stop being effective as replacement for Dexilant.
Please read my previous post on this carefully.
I wanted to ask you, when it get my Gastromend and take it do I still need to take PenZIn.? I can't believe how expensive it is. Hope it's worth it. There were so many positive reviews for this product. I can't believe you are able to eat sausage and candy bar, I wish I could just eat a nice sandwich. Are you able to eat wheat bread, that gluten free tastes terrible.
I remember you saying how you wish you knew about about all these natural products out there a person can take, instead of those terrible PPI. Sorry for picking your brain, but it's like a support group. Were all in the same boat, so it's sink or swim.
