Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

Hi all well I went to the doctors today and Im not happy with him. He said my gastritis should be better by now on the medication. He asked me what I would do if the pain never goes. He also said it could be scar tissue pain from having my gallbladder out. I don't believe him. This has to get better one day soon I hope. Its definately gastritis as my endoscopy report said moderate gastritis. Anyway I know how my stomach feels and it hurts when I eat. The doctors don't think gastritis hurts or persists like it does. Since when does a gallbladder live inside the stomach? I can't see how that has anything to do with my stomach hurting and reflux. He also says that hiatus hernias don't hurt. Well some people on the HH forum say they do. They say you can feel them. Ive had enough of this doctor,I need one who will give me some hope. If I didn't have gastritis I would wonder what the pain was. I have the symptoms of gastritis and do have it. Surely its going to go? Some days its got a bit better then it flares up. If it was scar tissue it would be the same all the time. I was told the gallbladder op went ok anyway.

Thanks kl31 it looks like Im stuck with that doctor at the moment. Ive seen other doctors now and again and they say they don't know my case and have to read my notes. Its the way they work in the UK they like you to see the same doctor who they think knows more about you. Well at this surgery anyway. Another thing they did on me was I changed to another practice. This practice was not far from home,great at first. That was until another surgery was built on an estate where I had actually moved from. If I still lived there it would practically have been next door! Anyway they wanted me to go up there,a good 3 miles from where I am now. Also there was another they had out of town about 5 miles away. It was crazy them wanting me to have appointments elsewhere when their surgery was just down the road. I returned to the previous surgery,where I am now. Its two bus rides away. So thanks to their workings Im stuck with it. I hope we all heal soon. The treatment is the same everywhere anyway. The medicines are the same,mostly,here or in America. They throw antacids at it and don't get to know the cause.

a supportive medical team makes all the difference. Only one specliast tried to tell me the pain wasn't so bad! And he would know this how???
I'm glad that most of them are understanding even if they don't know much about the condition.

Hi Dagmar68. Yes I take 150 Zantac four times a day. I think that it is helping a little. I don't think it works as good as a PPI. Then again I cant take PPI due to the fact that I am allergic to them. Well so far I have tried Prilosec, Prevacid and Dexilant. I am going to give Zantac two months and then I may try Aciphex. Anyone try Aciphex?

Hi Poorlygirl,
Pepcid is another form of an H2 blocker. Famotidine. Maybe you can give it a try. I am always praying for all of us.
