That's funny, but that is the one thing I miss the most, that one cup of morning brew. I was wondering if there is anyone who has healed from gastritis was able to handle it.

I can handle low acid Coffee, so called "Schonkaffee" in Germany. Grain Coffee should also be no problem.

If you need the caffeine, try espresso first ... much better for the stomach than usual coffee!

good news :) I find that I can handle instant coffee, which is completely counter intuitive! I dissolve a teaspoon in hot milk and it does not seem to bother me. I haven't dared to add more though and I make sure it's not on an empty stomach. The brand I drink is a plain Nescafe Taster's Choice.

I also really missed coffee, I went without for 4 months and it was brutal!!! It did get better after a while, but never completely. I used to drink shots of espresso from my italian coffee machine first thing... that won't be happening anytime soon again and probably got me in this mess.

I'm glad to hear it, dude. Sounds like your are making progress.

I switched to protonix 40mg a week ago and the difference from Omerprazole has been night and day.

I hope to be able to expand my diet as well soon but, to be honest, I am too afraid to eat outside my bland diet.

Great news. I haven't tasted coffee in four years. I don't miss it but dream of coffee ice cream now and then. Mind you coconut ice cream is everywhere now and with chocolate is divine. I also drink Caro - a cereal beverage which I love.
I will try coffee one day - maybe. I have IBS also and it is a big no no for that.

I am able to tolerate coffee not too bad, I only drink experess type coffee, I have just had a shot and not in agony! I also make sure I eat something small with it to help, If I were to drink a lemon drink I would be hurting like crazy, there is a very slight discomfort but I feel better in myself when I have had my coffee, being half Italian I do need it!!!! If I were to suffer really bad I would have to give it up, I did use decaf last time around when I was very sick and today I have bought decaf again to see how that goes

I would highly recommend not to drink any coffee until you're not healed.
My Gastritis got much worse when i continued drinking it and ignored my symptons. In the end i got it chronic.

I just ordered some low acid ground coffee on the internet called Healthwise, it has 80% less acid. I'm going to give it a try. Has anyone heard of it.

Last time I continued to dring decaf tea and coffee and that really was fine and I was much much more ill then than now, my GP said it was the caffein which was a stomach irritant, but again if I feel it's not sitting well I will give it up, but I don't want to become depressed and feel like life isn't worth living, I know from before that it isn't a fast healing thing and I have to be patient!! I am less scared this time now that I have been through the whole process before. But of course I will follow a bland diet again, definitely no Alcohol at all, coffee I only have one per day and it is good for the brain to cope with this I think. Cold brew coffee sounds interesting I might look at it. I don't like American style coffee as in a big mug of hot black water, I only like very small shots of good flavoured coffee, normaly very strong, but that will have to change a little if I am to drink coffee at all and be able to heal up!!!!!

I just received the. Low acid coffee from the internet, it's called Healthwise and it's all organic and they sell it regular or decaf, they are special beans grown in Argentina with 80% reduced acid, it tastes like Starbucks brand coffee, it costs 14.95 a lb., but if I have one cup in the morning it will last a long time, I actually like it better than the commercial brands. After not having coffee for 7 months it tasted very good, and it's good for the brain.

I will be interested to hear how it goes,I continue to have my one cup of decaf coffee made in a percolator, I don't know if it affects me, I certainly don't suffer after drinking anymore than I am suffering in general which is quite bad but different to the firt time. I will look out for low acidity coffee and if its available here in the UK.

If you go amazon they sell it there. Can you drink milk, most people with gastritis can't tolerate it, but I use a small amount in one cup.
May sure you have food in your stomach.

Thanks so much for that rosebrook, I will have a look at Amazon. I do take milk and don't seem to find it a problem, if anything I have always found creamy things more soothing and don't aggravate, and I absolutely make sure that I have something in my stomach or eat something small with either decaf tea or coffee. When I had this first time around and had huge amounts of nausea and zero appetite I found that icecream really soothed my stomach and I am not a big icecream fan!!! sometimes the rules go out of the window!
