Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

Hi since yesterday my gastritis has got a lot worse it just hurts like mad and last night I got hardly any sleep. I don,t know what to do now,Im beginning to think I will never get rid of this. It just hurts more than ever on these flare ups and this time its not settling down. Ive only took one PPI today and some Gaviscon. Ive had no coffee or anything else to upset it today. Would it better on two PPIs a day? Is anyone else like this? Some of you say the flare up goes and you get it under control again. I can,t seem to. Im in agony with it. I don,t know why it has got so painful. What do you think I should do? Should I phone the gastro as they are not giving me an appointment until April. I don,t know what to take to ease it now.

Personally, I would phone the gastro and tell the nurse how badly you feel, that you're not sleeping, etc. You really need help now--not in April!
Have you tried an ice bag for temporary relief? Or maybe a heating pad? I find ice works for me, but everyone is different, of course.

Been praying for you and all here. Please phone your doc ASAP--you deserve to feel better.

Thanks sunlovinmom,I haven,t rang the gastro yet but Im considering it. It wasn,t too bad today but I had coffee,which I shouldn,t have done and ended up with reflux. I had the coffee as I was out in a shopping centre,smelt it and couldn,t resist it. It was decaff but when Im at home I will keep off it. I will see how it goes but hope to get an earlier gastro appointment if I can. I could take two PPIs a day or up my Gaviscon so I have some options. I don,t know what its like where you are but if you phone a gastro here you get his secretary and she decides,if theres a cancellation,if you can have an earlier appointment. Its difficult to get one. I keep praying too,I shouldn,t panic should I?

When I phone my gastro, I either have to leave a message, or I get one of the doctor's nurses. Then they take my question and phone me later.

Yes--I miss coffee, too! :( Have not had any since last June!

I'm sure it is hard to get an earlier appointment, but maybe if you phone them and 'bug' them, being very clear you need help NOW, they may work you in. I hope so, and best wishes for quick improvement.

Hi sunlovinmom I haven,t phoned the gastro yet but I may have to,its very painful at the moment. Im a bit wary of them as one of the gastros doesn,t think all my pain is caused by the gastritis. I know that it is,my stomach feels very inflamed and is painful when I eat too. I was hoping to get to see another gastro in my nearest city but I haven,t heard anything. I don,t think my doctor could have referred me. I don,t know what will happen now. The gastro here was on about a scan once but Ive not heard anything else. Im not sure if Im having a scan or not or what type of scan.

Hi, Poorlygirl...I know the temptation is crazy, I grew up in a mexican family and you have no idea how much I miss putting salsa and lemon on EVERYTHING. But you really cant let it take over or it will mess you up...all it took was some raw onions for me.
