Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
For me I can handle the following :
Proteins : Chicken (only white no skin, very small amounts), eggs, steak (fat cut off, very little amount)
Basmati rice *(much less starch than white rice and not as irritating to the tummy as brown)
Crackerbread/crispbread (the gluten free type)
Veg : Carrot, eggplant, spinach and very occasionally potato or squash, lettuce and cucumber
Fruit : Banana and strawberries, sometimes grapes and avocado
Dairy : I only have lactose free milk, but still eat cheese. No yoghurt
Drinks : Milo (once per day) and water
NO FATTY FOODS!
A Typical day would be :
Breakfast
Eggs and crackerbread or just a cheese omlette
OR Smoothie made with 10 strawberries, a banana, water, a splash of lactose free milk
Lunch : Basmati rice and veggies or crackerbread and chicken or egg salad (once per week I can have a proper sandwich with bread)
Supper: meat and veg or salad made with lettuce and cucumber (once per week I may have a wrap)
Are you on a PPI like omez or nexium? You should probably get tested to see the cause of the gastritis (usually done by a scope). If it is caused by the bacteria H pylori then you need to get antibiotics to get rid of it. If it is just mild, it should go away in a few days or weeks, but its best to treat the cause
