Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
I started on Amitryptiline last week. It's an old school tricyclic antidepressant, which can be taken in low doses for nerve pain. A couple of other members here are on it.
I had the prescription for months, and I was afraid to fill it.. silly me. I felt the difference on the second day. I was already at 85-90% with the Dexilant 60mg, pain-free unless I really pushed it, and this eliminated my sensitivity completely. It's almost too good to be true. I made spanish paella last week, had onions, garlic (in moderation at first - I've been playing with these for the past month already, and nothing bad happened). Coffee is okay, although I lost my taste for it.
I'm only on 5mg, the dose for depression runs up to 200mg+. It's a tiny dose. But it must be quite a powerful drug, because even the 5mg makes me extremely tired, so I take it about 3 hours before bed. At least I know that when I take it something is happening for sure. Otherwise no other side effects (yet).
My plan is to run the Dexilant and Amitryptiline together for 2-3 weeks, maybe longer, then start to taper off the Dexilant. Hopefully I can do the old bag of sand and idol trick :) (sorry, I'm a nerd)
Anyway. That's the update! Hopefully it's not a giant disaster in the end.

Once damage has been done in the digestive system it is very easy to be hyper-vigilant & overly sensitive to pain. We simply feel sensations that 'normal' people don't feel.
For me - I 'feel' acid & bile washing over sensitive scar tissue in my duodenum.
I'm very tempted to try amitryptiline myself, but always been very worried about the tiredness & constipation.
I can be you guinea pig :)
I've been moved onto a different drug for anxiety/depression due to the side effects I had (mainly constipation causing bleeding) from amitriptyline at high doses.
