Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
i was diagnosed last may with "very mild" gastritis.
i went on carafate for about six months and it did nothing for me.
i am now on a ppi (have been for about two and a half months) and that seems to help, but it's definitely not a cure.
in addition to the PPI, i also started taking pepzin gi and i take a mild muscle relaxer at night to help with nighttime reflux.
as far as diet, i eat a lot of gluten free english muffins, chicken, eggs, toast, bananas and yogurt.
i go in two weeks for another endo, where they are doing a PH test to measure acid levels in my body.
2 months ago, I was with my GF and was going birthday party together. I was feeling very nauseous and I said to myself "I think I need to get my home" And I entered party. Rounded by crowd and many friends, then BOOM. Nausea dissappeared.
But most of the time, it's with me. Its idea, or its own. Does not matter. If I feel good, then I think "this is not normal situation, nausea will come soon" Busy bee has no time to sorrow. Well said by William Blake.
I have tons of examples like this.
Don't you agree?
Diagnosed with chronic gastritis with moderate inflammation in just one area. Have no infection. PPIs don't work on me. My only symptom is pressure in upper belly and middle of chest. No stomach pain, burning or something like that. Also got some anxiety waves so I take a low dose for which the Doc already gave me the green light to stop it if I like but left it up to me because he knows it helps me sleep. Just like you after 4 Endoscopies and PH bravo they said just OTC medications as needed will do the trick. Wrong again, did nothing for me. Cardio did all the test including heart CT which showed I have the lowest possibility of any kind of problem. They even gave me medication for Asthma for 30 days looking for answers and nothing. So my pulmonologist, ENT, Cardio, GI, Allergist, and PCD have no idea what the problem is so they say is Anxiety which my Psychiatrist does not agree. I believe 100% is related to eating better but just like you one day I have the pressure, eat at a fast food and it goes away. Another day I eat 100% health and I have the pressure. It is getting better the day I started to eat healthy.. In my case walking gives me more pressure. Is not Angina or anything related t the heart. So I saw a nutritionist and with some advise from people form this forum and starting my own diet ( I want to gain 10-5 pounds so is not easy. The funny thing is that laying back completely takes away the symptom and I have no problem sleeping with no heartburn or anything else besides depending on the anxiety pill to sleep better. I can still sleep without it, but not so well and that extra hour of sleep helps so much. I did noticed when I reduced my Gluten and dairy 80% from my diet and started to get better. Hard to go 100% when you have 2 kids. ;-(
After 3 years of suffering constant nausea and Ab pain, this did the trick for me! Coffee is the main problem for some. Look up coffee and gastritis online, and you will see the connection. Coffee can cause excessive acid production, incomplete digestion, all leading to gastritis and inflammation.
I am in my early sixties, in otherwise good health - don't smoke, good diet, normal weight @ 150 lbs. , regular exercise. I was drinking 2-3 mugs of black decaf every day. No more!
So I'll eat white rice, oats, low-fat yogurt (small amounts), chicken breast, eggs, potatoes and tuna fish for a while and let's see I get better or not.
For a random person, ranitidine has a much better chance of working, when taken properly, than a random PPI.
If I recall the studies correctly, out of all PPIs, Nexium is the most reliable in terms of working on widest range of people. But I don't recommend using PPIs except as a last resort, anyway.
