Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
Are you taking any other meds that could be causing your worsening pain? Things that have made my pain go to a 10/10 have been :
Multiple Vitamins
Anyhting with Vitamin C
Ibuprofin/Aspirin
Metamucil type stuff you drink- full of citric acid
Pain meds- prescription kind
Magnesium
Your Gaviscon has magnesium in it. See if your pain worsens after a dose.
Are you drinking soda pop or tea or alcohol? Those things do me in!
I've had this for 4 years. In the last few months, I've gotten my pain down to 0/10 most days and it's happened by chance. There's a decongestant sold BEHIND the pharmacy counter called Sudafed. If I take 1 pill in the morning, another at noon, and another at 3- my gastritis pain does not occur, unless I eat or drink the acidic things listed above.
I've experimented and the name brand Sudsfed works best. It's the regular kind that lasts 4-6 hours. The dose is 2 pills but like I said, I take 1, three times a day. I've tried the Walmart brand of Sudafed and it works okay- not as good as Sudafed brand but it does lessen the gastritis pain some. I tried the Topps grocery store brand of Sudafed and it didn't change my pain at all.
I have no idea why a decongestant would help my pain but honest to God, it does. It's supposed to reduce inflammation in your nose but perhaps it reduces it in ym stomach?
My gastritis is caused by bile reflux disease. Maybe it dries up my bile, in addition to drying out my nose LOL!
Good luck PoorlyGirl- I pray you get some relief soon.

I have been having some tea,I know it proberly doesn,t help but Ive nothing to drink. I don,t know about the Gaviscon. I have very little pop if any at all. I don,t know about Sudafed, whats in it. Im on other meds so I would have to ask the doctor. Im glad that it works for you. Gosh four years is a long time to have gastritis. Ive had it for over two years. Ive had other stomach problems but the gastritis and GERD since the gallbladder was taken out. Ive always wondered if its bile but it hasn,t been confirmed by the gastro.
If you're not getting any joy from mainstream docs then why don't you consider alternative options?
Good luck.
