Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

Back Pain

I seem to be having another flare up and this one has lots of back pain involved. It stretches across my back (near the shoulder blades, maybe lower). Trying to watch what I eat, but does anyone have any advice for this? Can't really take any pain meds. They tend to make me feel worse. Is this much back pain common? I've had this for over a year now but my gastritis is chronic so I don't think it'll be leaving anytime soon! Thanks all!

Hi kl31, I hope I can be of some help. I don't know much about Gastritis since i've only firts heard the word last week in the ER when the doctor told me what was causing my stomach pain, but i've been drawing and doing art for years, and the arm work is demanding so I know a thing or two about back pain. Just know that what works for me, may not work for everyone else, but here is what I do: If the pain is in the shoulder blades it could be the muscles. I would find a corner in your house somewhere, place both hands on both sides of the walls, stand back a little, then do "push-ups" in the corner of the wall by bending your elbows and pushing your torso forward. It will stretch out the muscles and loosen them up. I agree with a hot bath works well. There is also this ointment called Tiger Balm than works wonders. Just have you or someone else massage the sore spot with it and it's much stronger than a heating pad, from my experience. I hope it all goes well with you though! *hug*

That exercise sounds great, Jackie. I think I'll try it for my fibromyalgia pain, which has been a real 'pain' lately! Thanks! :)
