I always used a heating pad or took a warm bath when my back muscles flared. Also try sitting with a pillow propped behind your lower back (this can help take the stress off of your shoulders and stomach as well). Additionally, when all else fails, you could consider a massage or relaxing lotions. That can help some as well. Good luck and best wishes.

I also use a heating pad. I sit on the couch or propped up with pillows in bed with the heating pad against my back. A nice warm shower also feels heavenly and seems to 'untie' those sore muscles.

I have had back pain ( shoulder , upper - middle back ) for 3 days now it even goes to my sides, i dont know whatelse this gastritis got in store for me seems like u get the pain under control on one end it just moves .....smh .....but it good to read that others have these symptoms too...i was really getting little worried .....i scheduled a colonoscopy today ,i got to screening for it this coming Tuesday ...

I'm going in tomorrow because I believe I have another ovarian cyst and I got a lot of gastritis pain with the last one. Thanks ravenfish and Sunlovinmom for your advice! I never thought about using a pillow, but I may use my heating pad tonight. I sat in front of the fire today and the heat felt fantastic. It just freaks me out sometimes because my pain seems to go everywhere. Right and left sides and across my entire back. It's always helpful to have some wonderful people to share with and get advice from. Thank you all again for being there for me...as always!

Does anyone know why you get back pain everywhere? I figured it would be a left sided pain only. Not a band across my entire back. It's unreal how I have had this for so long and am still learning things!

I personally thought it was due to over-compensating for the muscles in the stomach region. Or at least that is what seemed to cause it in part in my case...

That is always possible. I just find that I have a LOT of PAIN the past few days and less burning. I think I will try the heating pad tonight and see how it does. The pain comes and goes but is just horrible right now. That always scares me. I think I have health anxiety when I get a flare up. This one just seems worse than others. I don't know why it happens but it is normal and sadly too common. I also take a long hot bath with some bath salts and rosemary is good for muscular pain.

It is possible to have anxiety attacks when you have a flare-up. It is called the mind, body connection or mind, gut connection depending on who you are speaking with. My doctors were the first to mention it. Remember when you are in pain, to use your anti-stress techniques as much as possible. It will help some with the pain too. (The higher the stress, the more the inflammation, the worse the pain). Deep breathing, refocusing your mind, reading a good book or watching a movie- whatever you have to do, do it. I promise, it will help- especially once that heating pad has been slapped into place. Personally, I played online games for about five months straight. It helped a lot.

Thank you all for your advice! I think the main anxiety I have right now is because the pain is so severe. I'm up right now because I can't sleep due to the pain. I have a feeling I'm having a flare up due to something with my lower abdomen. I have a lot of pain and cramping there right now. I think I may have another ovarian cyst (had one rupture in May) and it may be causing a lot of the issue. I don't like pain meds but I've had to take one the past 3 nights because it has gotten so bad. I've seen a doctor for a urine test and my gyno but nobody has ordered a CT or an ultrasound yet. May end up having to go to the hospital because every night the pain is worse. The heating pad definately feels good on my back, so I'm living on it right now :) Sorry to ramble, but this pain makes me wish I had the burning back! I always worry about my pancreas (little bit of health anxiety) but last October I had all of the necessary testing done for that which is when I found out I had gastritis. Just thought gastritis would always burn, not cause so much pain. You guys have been great and thanks for letting me babble on! I need it right now!

Thanks again! I ended up in the ER this morning because my pain and nausea were so bad. Turns out I do have a decent sized cyst on my right ovary. I think it's causing the issues right now. Hope it all gets better soon. I had one burst on my ovary in May so I guess I'm having some issues with that right now. Never had them before this. At least I know what's going on!

Hi Kl31 Im the same it helps me to air it to everyone. Thanks all. I just wish we could all be well. It seems that we all have more than one illness too. I have asthma but I have it under control. I used to get bad back pain and also pain in my ribs,which caused me to take the anti-inflammatories that led to all this stomach trouble. I just take paracetamol and Tramodol but don't like it. I wonder if you could take anything herbal for the back pain though its difficult with gastritis. I looked at Flaxseed oil but I don't know if it would be a good idea. I used a heat pad for my back and ribs but it takes time. I hope you go on ok. Theres acupunture isnt there but I don't know if it would help. Ive sat on hospital beds a lot taking Tramodol. I wish us all well soon.

I wonder, too, whether cool weather doesn't have a negative effect on gastritis? Seems since it got cooler in my area--and will get colder yet--I've had more uncomfortable days with achiness, etc.

Thanks poorlygir4l. I hope you feel better. I just replied to your post not realizing that you had replied to mine! Sounds like we're having some not so great days right now! My heating pad has become my best friend and I have had to start taking some pain killers occasionally, but mainly for my lower abdomen. Than I have to take anti-nausea meds for everything because the nausea can be overwhelming. I hope everyone feels better soon! Maybe the weather is having an effect on everybody!
