Why does this happen?

Every time I eat, without fail, my stomach hurts. It's awful. I'm over 2 months out now so I can eat pretty much normal now. But if it's chicken, cheese, protein bar, etc, after I eat it hurts. I chew chew chew and I'm not eating too much. What is causing this??

What type of surgery did you have? These foods all look dry, especially the chicken and bar. Is there any way to add something to them to moisten them up? I love chicken with guacamole or bbq sauce. It is very important to do the chewing, but even at 2 months, I was still needing to have a lot of moistness going on with my food. It is much better now (almost 8 mo post). I had RNY. Good Luck!

If you are having the brick in the middle of your stomach feeling with lots of thick saliva the chances are pretty high that you either aren't chewing enough (I chew to a liquid), are eating too fast, or are eating too much. 1 bite can make all the difference. I agree with Bouvier, a little moistness with the chicken can help a lot...I used a little low fat sour cream or low fat mao. Some foods never did agree with me, though (fish - I threw it up every time).

Another possibility is that you are forming a stricture. With strictures, usually it becomes more and more difficult to eat.

Your comment "I can eat pretty much normal now" doesn't work if it hurts every time you eat!! If it keeps up, please call your surgeon. Eating shouldn't hurt.

I had the same problem with chicken. I also agree with bouvier add something to add moisture to the chicken. I am almost one year post op and I still can't eat red sauces. It is like I am eating knives.

I had the RNY, im 4 month post op and i have similar difficulties, but like bouvier said, add moisture to your food. I have tried it and it works i dont get the upset feeling anymore. Protein bars may not be too good right now, since they are very dry and expand in your stomach. If you are going to do protein bars, my dieticianist recomended KIND.. its soft and moist. You can be also experiencing acid reflux (mild) try tums after you eat see if that helps. Good luck.

Just doesn't sound right and miserable way to live! I would go get checked out! Sorry this is happening, no wonder your not enjoying food!

Chicken is rough for me. I am 3 years out and the chicken has to be super moist or have sauce in order for my stomach not to ache. Really any meat that is slightly dry hurts my stomach.
