I told most of my family and they have been very supportive. I work with nurses, so, they have been great, too. My thing is when I tell folks I've lost 110 lbs. They say, Wow, that's great!" But you can see in their faces "Damn, how much did you weigh anyway?" lolol

What can I say? From size 28 to 20...this is the best "me" I've been in years!

I only have told my mother, father and my best friend who is always having WLS of course my husband knows but other than that I didnt tell anyone....Some of my family has had WLS and people say things like WOW taking the easy way out this is NOT easy BY FAR but thats what they THINK....I have chosen not to tell anyone else my mother thinks thats the right thing to do....I started losing alot of weight when I left home two years ago when my husband and I were based out here on the east coast since then no one has seen me not even pictures except my mom, dad and best friend I have gained everything I lost plus more back so by the time I visit home I will probably be a little smaller than I was when I left and after that I will continue to lose by going to the gym more and more and eating right....if I feel I can tell them I will but most of my family are all normal weight no health issues there are a handful of us who have battled with weight up and down for years.

MzCali I was talking about that last night with my mom shuffling down the hallway in pain... Who ever says this is the easy way out can go ..... Beep themselves 0_o I've told my family...mom, dad, Sis, brother in law and the women I work with. But I do notice my mom and Sis seem to be telling EVERY one about it :-\ people I'm not even close with. I expected it from my Sis but mom said she wouldn't but even today I was like wow you told her to. Oh well. I figured I couldn't keep it a secret long. I work in retail and have alot of regular customers who even noticed me loosing weight on my pre op diet. In the end I'm going to try my hardest to ignore others negativity and or ignorance

I agree thankfully my mom has known for a while now and hasnt said a word BUT Im sure it will come out...I have tons of family and just not willing to be subjected to negative comments, thoughts or looks for that matter....Im not going to let ANYTHING or ANYONE control me anymore :) I took a leave of absence from work for the last 3 months and wont be back till after Im healed up from surgery SOOO that gives me a lil window that I lost weight people know I've been going to the gym alot and have a trainer so I think that will help other then that if they ask Im just melting away hahaha

if one more person say why you do that to your self. You didn't have to do that?! Just stop eat and workout I will smack them! that upset me! there is nothing easy about this surgery!!! I am 8weeks out an I mean NOTHING ABOUT THIS HAS BEEN EASY!

I have told EVERYONE! Mine was easier in the fact that people know I have a lung disease, cant exercise and take loads of meds and are less judgmental. However some have still judged, told me not to do it etc - I dont call them friends now. I felt that I had to tell people as I am back at work and only allowed liquids!

I am 15 days out, and have really been picky about who I have told. I have told my sister, brother, parents, Aunt, and cousin. At work I have told a handful of my close friends. My husband told one of his friends, which I found out because his friend starting showing me pictures of his cousin who has recently had it done. I HIGHLY doubt he will make the mistake of telling anyone again! Since then I have been VERY straight forward about how it is my business to share, and would appreciate their discretion. I know as time goes on it will become extremely obvious, but I figure I will cross that bridge when I get there.

I've only told a few people. My mother tends to tell everyone my stuff so I don't really have to. What I hate is how much do you weigh now and also the how much have you lost. If I don't volunteer it or I'm with people just asking so they have gossip material I get really angry. I just say oh I don't keep track though cause I'm a wimp and can't say its not your business lol.

I told everyone at work and all of my friends. I didn't announce it on facebook and will NOT. Some people have been negative so now I am just keeping it to myself.

I told my church family as my hubby wasn't supportive.

Then when i was on a diet and known diabetic he would always give me candy and flowers. sweet but gez!

I actually asked for guidence on the prayer chain for a decision between the two surgerys presented me and if i should have either. That evening i knew. Really Zap my mind came unclouded

All the way my church family has complemented me and say how wonderful i look. Now they complement me on my cute tops. and new Hair cut. lol

My husband keeps buying me candy and i keep not sharing and sending it to the food bank. I mean major king sized bars and boxes lol One would think i would get the hint he he but one would think he would get the hint as well!!

My family had some bad experiences with loved ones that had gastric bypass. One side was jailed due to a addiction coming from it and the husbands side his daughter died two yrs out for not doing what she was suppose to do.

I did the surgery for medical. I lost my diabetis! I am a 5-1 a1c for almost a yr now. I do not want breast cancer again and the adrian glands have lost there nodes and thyroid it nodes and lungs i do not know i am not going to get a scan of radiation just for them. (though my insurance covers it)

Nope I find people want to support ... they get motivated by the positiveness of you and how slender your looking. and then the new cute tops.

Everyone in my life is supportive and my husband even though i am healthier doesn't know how to support.

That is why i come here and why i have friends.

Tomorrow I'll be two weeks post-op. Obviously my husband knows, and is uber-supportive. I told close family, and some people at work whom I thought would be supportive - and they are. My mom will probably tell other family members, and that's okay. No one has said anything negative to me about it. If/when that happens I don't think it's going to bother me. This was MY decision to make and I made it. If some people don't like what I've done than that's their problem to deal with. :-)

my children's father knew from the get go I was very very selective in who I told or tell, I didn't tell my family out right because no matter if they were unhappy with me being almost 300 lbs they would have had just as much negative stuff to say to me and even with my being careful I told one women who felt it her place to tell my brother who is like the town crier and now I am sure all of my family knows by now because he feels it is his place to keep everyone abreast of things even if it doesn't concern him but yeah this is something i have been working for , for a very long time and I don't need people to ask me like I don't know what I am doing, but since doing it every now and then I will feel saucy and tell one or 2 people

Gastric bypass was my choice, is my "tool", and is my news to tell. I feel strongly about not inviting opinions from folks who don't know me well or anything about the surgery.

For these reasons, I initially told only my parents, my boss and my partner. I asked for their support and let them know the decision was made and that I was convinced that WLS was the best investment I could make in my health and happiness. They were all very, very supportive and continue to be.

After a couple weeks I told a couple close friends, making it clear that their support and spirit of celebration was important to me and the reason I was telling them.

I'm now 3 1/2 months post-op and have told a few more people.

Each person I tell is asked not to tell anyone else. It's my news to tell if/when it's comfortable for me.

I told everyone because I didn't want my kids to have to keep a secret. I don't think any of us have anything to be ashamed of for having this surgery. That said, the fact that everyone knows has opened me up to the most idiotic comments. Things like "I wish I could loose weight the easy way like you did" (yes she really did say easy), or the questions like "why didn't you just go on a diet?". It also puts so much pressure on me to not gain an ounce back, if I do I will really look like a failure. I still would have told everyone so my kids wouldn't have to lie.

I told everyone when I had lap band done. When I failed and gained more weight than I lost, I was having to deflect a lot of questions/ridicule and other negativeness. Since I have had the RNY, I have told hubby and 2 other not close friends (both have done it and questioned my questions). When people ask about my weight loss I either smile and say thank you or I let them know that I did have the band removed. Then I change the subject ;-)
