Well unfortunately the older we are when we have the surgery the less elasticity our skin has left. I had mine 19 almost 20 months ago, while I lost my weight (120lb) within the first year, exercise (weight lifting, yoga and balance ball) is greatly helping me reduce my excess skin. Unfortunately this won't work for everyone. My doc recommends waiting at least 2 years after surgery (unless you are quite morbidly obese) to consider having plastics. I would love a breast lift and tummy tuck, but not sure I will pursue it or not yet. I love my body and who I have become on this journey but it is a personal preference.

I think it happens to everyone. Everyone I know that's had the surgery, anyway. My neice (age 25) even had it. She was 314 to start has lost 140 lbs. She looks really good in her clothes.

But she is pursuing a tummy tuck to get rid of the excess skin because she's tired of having to tuck and fold it inside her jeans!

It is a personal preference, tho as Belle said. Another person that I know has thick thighs. She said she'd like to have a tummy tuck, but if she did, she's afraid she wouldn't be able to find pants that would fit her right because her legs are still wide. She lot 144 pounds and kept it off.

I'm almost 4 months out - so I have a while to decide what I'll do. My plan is to have the excess lower stomach skin removed, but I may change my mind in 2 years...who knows.

I had an arm lift on May 28th to have the loose skin below my arm taken off. It was very painful and I am not sure if I would do it again. I had very bad body odor for about a month and couldn't lift hardly anything. I am about 6 weeks post op and will need some revisions done on my arms. They are still too loose around my arm pit area. That means the surgeon will have to cut my arm pit once again...OUCH!!!

You can see the pics under my pic section. You will have to look through them to see pre op pics and then updates since then. I have a huge scar that is very unattractive. I rub Mederma and Vitamin E on it daily, but it is still nasty ugly. Like I said, my arms are alot smaller, but I am not sure if I knew then what I know now that I would go through with it again.

I started at 392, weigh 254 now and have excess skin EVERYWHERE! Stomach, legs, back and arms. I HATE it and over time plan on removing it. For me, it's a part of closing my "fat life". It's a personal thing for me, very personal. I plan on having a breast lift done as well because boy did those head south post-op. I didn't think it'd happen cuz I'm so young (almost 29), but it did! Like they are all saying, it's very personal. Some people can be comfortable with the skin, I can not. For me, it's going to close that chapter of my life. I'll NEVER forget it, but I don't want to look at it every day if I can slowly eliminate that part of my life. It'll take time. Make sure you make the right decision for YOU! Good luck!

I'm 51 and have lost 145 lbs. Yes I have a lot of hanging skin on my thighs, belly, love handles, butt and bat wings under my arms. I cannot afford plastic surgery, and my insurance will not cover it, so I just tell everyone that I look great in my clothes. I have been married for 27 years and my husband also has hanging skin issues. But we accept each other, warts and all. I know for younger people, the hanging skin would be more of an issue. Believe me, though, if I won the lottery, I would definitely get rid of all of the hanging skin. I have had a weight problem since I was 4-years-old, so it would be nice to be very comfortable in my skin...no pun intended.
