I am starting day one of the 5 day pre op diet. Clear liquids.... Surgery on Tuesday. I have gone through the roller coaster of emotions, and pretty much settled into simply being resigned that this is the only way to go, and just simply has to happen. I have told my self for at least ten years that it would be the last year I lived in this condition. Well 2013 is the year for that! I had a moment of mourning the refridgerator last night realizing that when I woke up in the morning I would not be eating most of the items in there again. lol I have only requested 10 days off work. I know it is short, but when I come back (I work for University Police.) it will be summer break, and I won't really have to do anything but sit in my chair and watch tv for my 8 hour shift.

I too start my liquid fast today, but I get to do it for 21 days. My "last supper" mentality had me eating "stupid" this last week, must go face the scale in a few min.

I am not resigned to this surgery I am so looking forward to all that is coming this next year. I was scheduled for surgery Feb 15 but due to accident it was cancelled and I was only declared all healed on Tues. I am 60 this year and so wish I had had the option for this surgery 30 years ago, but I don't plan on wasting the years I have left, which due to this surgery will be more than I could have hoped for.

just read your comment on not seeing 319 again, funny we weigh about the same, to start. I am so looking forward to seing that scale drop under three hundred, it is at least 10 years since it was down there for me.

All the best to the 3 of you having surgery this year - exciting times indeed! I am 5 weeks post-op & have just broken the 300lb barrier - so happy as I started out at 341lb before surgery. We can do it!

I start my 2 week liquid diet in three weeks and believe me I understand about the "mourning" of food. I keep trying to remember that food is fuel but dang, those peanut butter cups seem like more than that to me! I try and not think about the surgery or the few weeks after when the body is trying to heal and mind is trying to adjust. I just keep remembering the things I am looking forward to doing again once I get this weight off. I hope you can remember those things you are looking forward to as well and it helps get you through the next 5 days! I look forward to hear how the surgery goes and how you are doing!

It is so worth all of it!!!! I went to the good will store yesterday and bought 2 pairs of size 10 jeans....I have not been a 10 since 9th grade. Just keep your head in the game !!

Oh believe me I have been dreaming about the things I will be able to do and I keep trying to calculate when I will be at a weight I can do them. I have been looking at horses. lol As soon as I am where I can ride again, I am buying a new show horse. :)

Good luck to you (and the others on here who are pre-op or just out of surgery)... Try not to dwell on the the pre-liquid diet.... It will be just a memory very soon... And as you meet us on the loser's bench, you won't regret having to go thru it at all (at least I hope not, I can't speak for anyone but myself)....

Just focus on the goal, and follow the plan, and you will be a new YOU in no time at all....

I really wish this had not fallen on my day off work. Lol. I really need a distraction. I am not hungry,but everywhere I turn there is food triggers. Tv is a terrible help. Food commercials every 5 minutes. My kids brought home a box of cookies from school fundraiser last night and left them on the counter. Day one of thebattle I will have to learn to overcome everyday for the rest of my life. :)

It's Saturday and just like last time I love the pre-op liquid diet. I don't have to make any decisions about food, it frees me to do other things to keep away from food. I agree with you goldenrivers about tv and commercials. Luckily for me my hubby mutes all commercials and I just close my eyes or look away. I already feel the boost in energy and don't "hurt" as much since there is no sugar in my diet. I do think of the days after surgery and I try to "psch" myself up for good and bad so that I am ready for both and try to have stratagies in place. That is one reason I love to read about other peoples experiences
with this surgery.

I feel for you doing this for 21 days. 5 seems like eternity to me. I am allowed to have sugar pre op, just not after. 2 more days! It is so close.

Well I don't need the 21 days as my surgery was bumped up 2 days tothe 21st. I meant it when I said I love this liquid diet, I have very strict rules - 4 ensure high protein a day and 1 cup of 1% cottage cheese. I can also have decaf or herb teas, crystal light and water. the only thing I don't like is the trips to the loo. I never have had a very strong bladder but now it's terrible. How about post surgery? do things get better? I am hoping that as I lose weight there is more room in me for the bladder to hold more lol.
