Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
You can't compare weight loss in pounds... those of us who start at 220-250, especially when we lost prior to surgery aren't going to lose as quickly as those who start at over 300. We have proportionately less fat to lose. I hope that you took your measurements before surgery, because I lost an inch off my waist and tummy while I was plateaued at 202.5. If you didn't take them before - take them now, your still losing inches (I"m a quilter - I get to lose 1/4 inches ;-) ) I check the scale every morning - but only about once a month on the tape - unless I'm plateauing.
In the mean time be sure to try on the largest of your new stuff at least once a week. I had stuff I was planning on shrinking back into - and I missed it entirely. It went from too small to too large in the blink of an eye.
Hang in there, it will happen

I did take my measurements at the beginning.
I am down 28 inches from pre-surgery.
I see that since I last checked (which was a few weeks ago I am down another 1/2 inch in a couple spots (bust and waist).
I check the scale at the same time every morning and then I leave it alone.
I feel like if I don't check it that much I will be really disappointed when 2 weeks have went by and I haven't lost a thing.
I have always been someone who has to keep an eye on the scale for the reality check.
I bought a pair of size 16 Ed Hardy jeans on Ebay.
They were really expensive (I HAD to have them with the skulls and roses!) but I am an experienced Ebay seller and I am planning to resell them and recoup my losses.
They are made small and I am farther than I would like to be from fitting in them.
I also have a couple pricey black safari style pant sets in 16w and 14w that I had for sale and laid away for myself.
Yes I am a clothes horse, thats me yep!
I will take your advice and keep trying these items on.
I don't want them to pass me by.
I admit I am still fiquring out how I am going to do this.
It is fair to say things are not always going as smoothly as I would like them too.
Sometimes I feel like I never even had surgery.
However I look down and the scars are there

I have heard for some it takes the entire year to lose 100 pounds.
I do know if I had to do this hungry (like I was before surgery) everyday without the scale moving I could never make it.
No wonder.
Hang in there all you newbies!
I want so much to believe this can work for me as it has for you Callie.
For me little about this experience has been what I was told or expected.
I guess I listened too intently to a friend of mine who had the surgery over a year ago and clearly experienced things much differently.
I am like you in that I am very open and honest I wouldn't sugar coat this surgery to anyone.
Maybe you are right, this will be my journey with my own story to tell.
I guess slow and steady wins the race.
Onmywaynow, you have lost almost a whole pound a day... I don't think you could ask for better weight loss than that!!!
We all have to remember it took us years to get to be overweight, it didn't happen from eating 1 plate of spagetti and some Ben and Jerry's. It took hundreds of plates and many pints of B&J to get us where we needed GBS. It isn't going to happen over night, but we have the tools, keep your head held high, it will happen, this is your last YEAR as an overweight individual!!! But it will take time, your brain NEEDS it to take time... if you woke up tomorrow and had a Barbie body you'd be a total mental case forever!
I am almost 3 months out, I am down 57 lbs, I only weighed 250 to start. People with more weight to lose are going to lose a lot faster, but I am confident in our own time we will all make it to the individual goals we have set for ourselves!!!
Good Luck Ladies, keep your head held high, you will do it, it takes a little time and some effort!!!

I heard that the honeymoon period is when you get hungry again. I never was not hungry from day one.
Please hang in there, get the good stuff in and it should pay off!
I have continued to have a short plateau every month since surgery and EVERY time for the first few months, I would start to panic and think it was just not working for me. Now it makes me chuckle that I had those panic attacks so often.
Just like the advice I was given at the time, now I am giving it, and next year YOU will be giving it to someone else too - the surgery IS working, you are NOT a failure at it and it WILL keep coming off!!
My body hangs on to every pound as long as possible and then drops several at a time. This has been my personal experience. Yours may be different, but right now your body is fighting to hang onto the fat. It does not like to be starved.
I had about 105-120 lbs to lose so my loss has been slower than some who had more to lose, but - I am almost at my personal goal after 9 months! I couldn't be more thrilled. You will be too - I PROMISE!!
Just keep doing the right things, following your surgeon's plan and you will be a success at this and so happy with your results!
I just wanted to be assured that this is all normal and I will be reaching my goal like so many others on this board.
It must be tiring for the more seasoned members of the group to support the newer members who become fretful and impatient with the process but I thank-you for your support from the bottom of my heart.
