There are always out of pocket surgeries, if it comes to that. Many people get the sleeve from Dr. Alvarez in Mexico. Not a cutrate deal, really qualified people at a reasonable price. Check out Eggface for info on out of pocket, out of the country options...Good luck! VSG {:>}

I don't think it's selfish. You have a lot to think of. This is no trip to the beach here. This takes a lot of preparation and though. I think that insurance premiums are paid up for blocks of time (like 6 months or three months) I don't think they necessarily stop the second a person is laid off. This probably wouldn't be too difficult to check into, I would call the insurance company and find out whats what.

Keep that faith... Sorry to hear about the lay off. I will pray that he returns soon as well. Can't he keep the insurance? And don't they have to cover 30 days at least?

lots of prayers for you and your family. I work for a county government and the legislature is looking at eliminating my job, so I know the stress you are all under. My theme song is "I Walk By Faith" listen to it over and over as walk in the mornings. You are not selfish, preparing for the journey is sometimes hard, and to have a set back is horrible. Keep the faith :)

Will keep you in my prayers, I know it is difficult to afford the surgery even with good insurance you sometimes have to pay the program fees for your doctor's office and vitamins afterward. I will be standing in faith with you that God will move in your situation and do what is best for you.

Check with your husband's company about COBRA. It is a federal program that lets you keep the insurance that your company provided. You have to pay the monthly amount that the company paid, but you still have insurance. I think it is good for 18 months.

Karen, I do noy feel that you are being selfish... I am sure that you have done a lot of work, been on an emotional roller coaster. You just need to trusr God that it will happn in His time.

As far as I know insurance is pre paid for one month, you should be covered up to the last day of the month that hubby gets laid off. So if his last day is April 20th you are covered through April 30th. There are rare exceptions to this, depends on the company policy. Cobra will kick in but you do have to pay full price, prob around $400 - $600 per month.

Self pay may be an option but I know in my financial situation that I could not afford to pay for it.

I wish you luck and will pray for the surgery and the job for yout hubby.

Don't feel bad about wanting your surgery. You have waited a long time for this. Keep the faith and everything always works out. He never lets you down. We may question him but it always works out. My prayers are with you.

Sending you prayers. My husband was just laid off also (except his is a permanent lay off) . Luckily I had already had my surgery in January.
