I went to japan for a month about 4 months after my surgery. I was just fine. I was comforted by the fact that there are many military installations in Japan so i knew i would have access to an American Hospital. My main concern was getting sick from the food. I had trouble with a couple of things, but for the most part i stuck with things I knew I was pretty safe with.
You just need to do your research. Make sure you are near a place that has a good standard of care incase something does happen and you need medical attention. I mean going to a third world country probably wouldnt be the greatest idea, but im sure there are many places you can visit, have a great time, and be safe....Enjoy where ever it is you wind up!

as long as your surgical sites have healed well enough for you to be comfortable then go. There should not be any limitations to travel. Food wise I would think ahead to plan what to take or buy while on the trip. and just to be on the safe side I would tuck a little index card into my wallet that states I had the surgery on ____ date and what meds you are on and the number of your family doc. basically an I.C.E number/card.. I have one I carry in my purse and when I go out for my walks I have one tucked into what ever I carry due to health issues, saves time. Go and have fun on the vacation and try not to over think it!

I'd be worried about any type of food poisoning ... I went to Ireland and didn't eat anything very strange but ended up with 3 days of being sick as a dog ...

So, the moral is ... be sure you've been there before (in my opinion) ... don't use local water unless you're sure its filtered etc. ...


And definitely be sure things are cooked through ...

I was told I couldn't fly for a month after my surgery. I don't remember why though. I had some complications and it was about 4 months before I felt like being too far from home.

I was only off of work for one week. I don't see why you can't plan something. You won't be able to eat much, but I say go have fun!!!

Ask your doctor for his recommendation re travel. There will probably be a hospital and doctors near where you are going so it's not like there wouldn't be help avavilable if you would need it. Perhaps your bvacation could be closer to the end of summer so you would feel more comfortable.
