Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
@weeno (sorry it has taken me so long to respond - life was even more super-busy this past month than usual!)
Yes, my breakfast is usually just the protein shake (i use 1 scoop of Gold Standard Extreme Milk Chocolate and 1 scoop of Metabolic Nutrition Protizyme Peanut Butter Cookie... I also add a scoop of creatine and L. glutamine. Then mix it with water and ice - it's the consistency of a Wendy's Frosty). My "real food" at-home meals are either chicken on salad, homemade chicken enchilada soup, shredded beef with sour cream, moist chicken...stuff like that. I don't like veggies so I don't eat them. Fruits are too high in sugar for me. When I was in my losing phase, I used Premier Protein bars. Now I use Zone bars (perhaps not the greatest nutritionally, but I like them).
As long as I stick to the basics during the week, I can enjoy going out to eat or a few snacks during the weekend. I try to stay away from gluten and flour, so when I snack on "crapy food" it's stuff like Cheetos, Fritos, potato chips, or popcorn. I do eat nuts, but try to keep them to a minimum because the portions can really get away from me.
Yes, I adhere to the no drinking with meals or half an hour before/after.
I think I hit all your questions?

God bless,

Yes, I believe God can change our desires. Personally, I'd begged him to change my desire for food for almost 40 years. He chose not to answer those prayers in the way I wanted Him to. However, He answered it in a different way - through gastric bypass. The reality is, our metabolisms (think of metabolism as our body's "nature") change as we gain weight. Being obese affects our hormones (including insulin and hunger hormones). Our bodies (flesh) fight against attempts to use up the extra stored fuel (fat). For me, WLS was almost like being "born again" - yes, I can still choose to overeat. However, over-eating is now fighting against my body's new nature.
Statistically speaking, gastric bypass gives people who are morbidly/ super-morbidly obese the best chance of getting to a healthy weight and staying there for a lifetime.
Food is fuel. We abuse it when we use it to meet other needs.

I regained to 190 and have lost to 179 over the past 3 weeks. Did a 3 day pressed juice cleanse to kick start and have been doing pretty good. Logging in My Fitness Pal. BUT everyday is a struggle, I love diet dr pepper and made the mistake of adding it into my diet over a year ago. I can eat sweets but don't choose them I would rather have a diet dr pepper... but carbs oh boy do I need help with that. First step walking more and logging everything!!! Any input or help would be awesome!!
