Has anyone who takes generic synthroid had their TSH level drop to below normal after getting to goal after RNY gbs? The results are in from my annual physical. My doctor says "Beautiful!" on all the numbers. All but the TSH. It had been running in the middle of the normal range, around 2 to 2.9 with 137 mcg generic Synthroid. Now, it's 0.306. Just curious. Weightloss should have nothing to do with thyroid function, but who REALLY knows.

Same thing here. Since surgery we have had to adjust my thyroid medication up twice now.

I had to lower my dose then raise it again and they just had me lower it again

Have they offered either of you a reason for the fluctuations?

I actually just made an appointment to have blood tests. I'm not at goal but I am about 70 pounds down so I think a few of my meds might need adjustment.

Hi, I don't take the generic but I am only 2 months out and at 6 weeks post op they increased my synthroid, usually every 2 to 3 months my TSH level is tested and before surgery the synthroid was being reduced.. highest dose was 250mcg then got down to 175 mcg now back up too 200mcg.. my doc said we would probably be playing with my levels going up and down during the weight loss..

they told me it was the weight loss but like I said they had to increase it back again

I just started seeing a new endocrinologist. She said the weight loss will play with the thyroid levels. thyroid is a hormone and this rapid loss messes with your hormones.........i think she said any rapid weight loss does it actually. As far as generic synthroid they found nearly 20 years ago that my levels do not stay stable on generic. I got the impression this happens to many because she did ask specifically which I took and said good when I answered.

I only meet her once so far she sounded like she knows what shes doing.

I just had my appt with my endocrinologist and he said that with the bypass we may not absorb the synthroid or the generic as well as before. That we may have to keep adjusting the dose for awhile.

Obviously I am not at goal, but I am guessing that all the changes can wreak havoc and it may just have taken awhile to show up.
