Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
Start making changes now, and it will go easier for you post-op: decaffeinate yourself--that includes giving up soda pop; find a couple of proteins that you like; get the junk out of the pantry and stock it with GBS-friendly things like SF pudding, SF popcicles, broths, SF Torani syrups...You get the picture. Be more active.
Occupy yourself between now and 19 April by making conscious, healthy choices. If you find yourself in an emotional eating phase, stop and identify the emotion--what triggers the eating? Then make a list of other things you could do when that emotion hits, rather than eating.
All these things will help you be calmer and more prepared for the surgery. Good luck.
I am 51 about to turn 52 just after my 1st year surgiversary which is March 12.
This surgery is just about like any other you would have so just get your house real clean and have some support in place because you likely will be out of comission for a couple of weeks (more or less depending).
Getting your pantry stocked with GBS friendly foods is another good idea.
Start making changes now to get your head in the right place. You don't have to do it all at once but do prepare yourself mentally so your transition can be smoother.
I think at 57 you are probably ready for this surgery and you know it's something that has to be done to prolong your life and the quality of it.
I must have been very ready because I have never once regretted my decision.
You will see that first 5 pounds go in a blink. Or you may be one of those who come home with some water retention after surgery.
Either way, don't stress. Do your part and let the surgery do it's job.
I lost 105 pounds in less than a year and I am still able to lose if I follow my plan. Since we are roughly the same age I invite you to look at my photos to see how far I have come
and you will too.
You are nervous now and that is understandable. You can do this.
Sincerely Hope
